Snowballs
---------
Bobbie has stopped by the Quartermaines and hears about the trip to Arizona.
Monica laments they couldn't have stayed longer because when she, Alan and
Emily returned they walked in on another of the infamous Quartermaine battles.
Monica is feeling very inadequate as Ned was able to get through a little
bit to Emily about the Quartermaine family dynamics. When Monica expresses
the idea that adopting Emily may be a big, horrible mistake Bobbie tries to
dissuade Monica of that notion. All Emily needs is time to get used to life
in the Quartermaine household, a household of lunatics! Alan comes in on the
conversation and when Monica heads off for more iced tea he hears from Bobbie
about Monica's panic over Emily. Alan decides to talk with Emily. Emily
comes in after hearing from Reginald that Alan was looking for her. Hearing
Alan wants to talk, Emily is afraid she's done something wrong. But no, Alan
again apologizes for the earlier argument and tries to explain the
Quartermaine family dynamics (how could anyone explain that family?!). When
she questions why everyone is so hard on AJ, Alan tells her about the high
expectations everyone, including Edward and Alan and even AJ, has for AJ.
Although as Alan admits, AJ can be a jerk at times. The idea of the Qs
stockpiling ammunition for arguments is totally foreign to Emily so Alan
tries to use a snowball fight as an analogy. Oops, Emily grew up in the
desert...no snow. Emily is amazed at the idea. Alan also lets Emily know
that as ferocious as Quartermaines are at fighting with each other, they will
be as equally as ferocious fighting for her. Alan starts to explain how the
family has closed ranks around him but when Emily tries to get details Alan
starts to get defensive in a playful way, she's not going to get ammunition
for future fights. Emily catches on that blackmail, eavesdropping, and
"handing someone's head on a sliver platter" are just the kinds of
ammunition the Qs stockpile and she and Alan start laughing. Just then
Monica takes notice and obviously feels left out. Emily takes off to see
Raoul and Alan explains to Monica about getting through to Emily. Monica
feels even more inadequate despite Alan's assertion that Monica set him up
to get through to Emily. Alan makes the observation that Emily has let him
in since she hadn't had a father for a while, and that while Emily does like
and trust Monica, Emily probably feels that loving Monica would be a betrayal
of Page. Moncia does agree but is near tears as she laments she hadn't
figured this would be that hard.

Playing Hardball
----------------
When Luke returns to the Outback from seeing Mac he finds Sonny drinking
in the morning. Sonny tells of refusing to let go of his interest in L&B.
Just after Luke is gone, in walks Ned. Instead of letting things cool down
he's decided to make his points to Sonny. 1) Sonny is never to threaten
with lawyers, 2) Sonny is to never, ever threaten Lois, and 3) Sonny should
not delude himself into thinking he has a future with L&B. Sonny is very
angry but Ned doesn't like Sonny laundering himself with L&B and putting
Ned, Lois, Brenda and those they work with in danger. Sonny of course claims
he's never put L&B in danger and when Ned offers to buy Sonny out, Sonny
declines. Ned's ultimatum with no discussion prompts Sonny to ask "Or else."
The two continue to play hardball with Sonny claiming Lois was scarier than
Ned and if Lois couldn't get Sonny to leave L&B there is no way Ned will.
When Ned learns Sonny's object is a return from L&B, Ned whips out his
checkbook and writes a check, which Sonny promptly tears up. With that Ned
promises he'll have the police, feds and everyone else investigate Sonny
thoroughly and if need be the Quartermaines will bleed Sonny dry. Ned is
giving Sonny the opportunity to walk away and continue his "business",
otherwise Ned will see that Sonny is shut down. Sonny counters with a
what if...what if Sonny investigates ELQ...surely he'll find something.
When Ned brings up the danger issue, Sonny warns Ned not to make Sonny
rethink that issue. Oops, Sonny, now Ned thinks he's seen your true colors.
Ned heads off to the Outback to talk with Mac. Of course Mac already knows
about Sonny finding the wire. Ned can't figure why Lily tipped off Sonny,
since they can't figure she's loyal to her father. They figure she must be
loyal to Sonny. With the knowledge that Sonny knows they "know" about his
business, if Sonny doesn't leave L&B quietly, they'll keep their eyes and ears
open for something that could trigger a federal investigation. Meanwhile
Harry is visiting with Sonny. Sonny needs someone to do some clear thinking.
They figure Harry's office was bugged and will have it swept. They plan
to be prepared in case the cops do come in. Harry will move the betting and
numbers business out of his office. Sonny claims all "his" money is clean,
only can be traced to the Paradise Lounge, L&B, and LUKE'S. He will keep
it that way. With the defense taken care of Sonny wants to think about his
offense. Harry suggestion of selling Sonny's share's of L&B is a no go.
Instead Sonny is prepared to go up against Ned. He can't lose to Ashton.
Harry warns him of mixing it up with a very influential and public figure.
However Sonny's idea is to do some research and get some leverage on Ned,
so that Sonny can show Ned what is is like to lose.

Loyalty
-------
Ok, folks...this one, well....if you managed to get through these scenes..
Brenda and Lily go at it in the middle of Kelly's with Brenda accusing Lily
of getting what Lily wanted (Sonny and Brenda apart) and Lily accusing Brenda
of not allowing Sonny to have female friends. As the voice level escalates
Ruby tells them to take it upstairs if they want to continue their
"discussion." Lily claims to have been protecting Sonny and questions
Brenda's loyalty to Sonny. Brenda questions Lily's idea of partnering and
throws Lily's failure to tell Miguel about their baby in Lily's face as well
as Lily and her mother turning their eyes from Lily's father's criminal
activities when Lily tells Brenda that Brenda couldn't handle Sonny's
business. Downstairs Miguel comes in and Ruby sends him upstairs. He comes
in as Lily is discounting the comparison between Sonny and her father and
Brenda is accusing Lily of making a move on Sonny. Miguel is supposed to make
Sus believe he can't believe Lily would be going after Sonny. Lily defends
Sonny for protecting them from danger but all Miguel sees is that Lily trusts
Sonny. Brenda cuts out and Miguel hits on Lily for buying Sonny's act.
Miguel can't believe that Lily can't see the connection between Sonny and her
father. Lily defends Sonny as one who has principles like she does, and
unlike her father. With that Miguel tells Lily she's just like her father,
partnered with Sonny. Meanwhile downstairs, Laura has come in. Ruby wants
to know when the "silliness" between Luke and Laura will end. But Laura does
not know how to solve the problem. When Brenda comes down Brenda starts to
ask Laura a question..."How do you live with Luke's..." and Laura finishes the
question..."wild side?" Laura's response mentions working together. Laura
figures there's trouble with Sonny. Brenda admits there is but Brenda won't
divulge it. Laura leaves and Ruby learns that Sonny has hurt Brenda. Ruby
of course tells Brenda she's better off without Sonny and while Brenda's brain
understands that her heart doesn't. Miguel comes down. He and Brenda now
know their "enemies" but still have each other. (ARGH!) They go to walk the
docks for some serious thinking.
