Scene 1
At Kelly's, alley-cat Bobbie mean-mouths Laura to Ruby, but in the middle of
her criticisms, Laura comes in, and Bobbie gives her a smile from both faces.
Scene 2
Tom shows up at Mae Mae's to see Simone.
Scene 3
Felicia visits Mac, and they discuss Robin. She wants to know how he is about
Stone. Mac suggests Stone stay clear of him. Mac asks Felicia if she wants to
rejoin the gumshoe business [I want to know where the woman gets money to live
on]. When Felicia expresses interest, Mac tells her about his work for Ned
spying on Sonny. He goes on to tell her about Brenda's overheard information on
Harry and Sonny. Mac describes a plan where Felicia will pose as a big
gambler. His hope is that eventually Harry will have to get directly involved
with Felicia, and then they will have hard evidence of Sonny's real business.
Scene 4
Back at Kelly's, Bobbie bares her claws and spits up a hair ball at Laura. She
accuses her of abandoning Luke and blaming everything that goes wrong on him.
Laura tries to defend herself with the usual excuse about protecting the
children, but Bobbie counters saying Luke's been taking care of them for years
and stalks out.
Scene 5
Tom babbles with Mae Mae while waiting for Simone to finish her rounds at the
Ward House. Eventually, Simone appears with a recovering kid in her arms, and
Tom volunteers to entertain the tyke with some of his humorous anecdotes of
rare African disease cases he's seen while Simone finishes her rounds.
Scene 6
Felicia stops by the local candy store/bookie joint to place a bet on the
horses. Astoundingly, the guy accepts it. She next asks to open a $5000 line of
credit, so he gives her the name and address of his "credit manager." [I was in
awe at the lameness of this scene, but decided to cut them some slack since it
was needed just to advance the plot]
Scene 7
Ruby tries to make excuses for the Full-Figured Feline saying she instinctively
defends Luke. Laura asks Ruby if what she's doing is wrong. Ruby side steps
the question, and they both express a hope Laura will find another way.
Scene 8
Stone arrives outside the Outback and confronts Mac who at first tries to
leave, but Stone calls for him to stop. Mac strongly advises Stone to leave
since Spam's very fried at him. Stone, either deaf or stupid, tries to get Mac
to talk about Robin saying they both love her. Mac finally explodes, bitterly
saying, "You may have signed her death warrant. That's how I feel," and
storming off leaving Stone standing alone.
Scene 9
Tom tells Simone about his losing the Chief of Psychiatry position to Kevin by
one vote, his father's. She says she's very sorry but not surprised [I was
surprised they'd consider him at all]. Something is going on with him, she
suggests, but even he doesn't know what. He stares at her and replies he does,
just as Justus arrives home.
Scene 10
Felicia arrives at the office of the alleged Bookmakers Credit Bureau to see
about getting a line of betting credit. She gives the guy her indepth info,
i.e. name, phone number, and address [Jeez, I'll bet no police department would
ever be so sophisticated as to be able to get a fake phone]. However, when he
balks at the $5000 limit, she plays her insulted feminist role that she's done
in numerous past similar scenes. Eventually, Harry magically appears to see
what the commotion is about. Harry questions her, and eventually they accept
her story. He gives her a coded note to take back to her bookie. [Let me see.
Harry, the highly connected one, is totally unaware that Felicia is WSB agent
Frisco Jones' ex-wife and ex-Police commish's god-daughter and whose face was
plastered all over the newspapers during Ryan's reign in PC. Yep, I guess
that's believable.]
Scene 11
Justus starts right up with Tom, virtually asking him to get out. Tom, as
usual, points out that Simone is still his wife. As voices get raised, Mae Mae
intervenes to silence them all. Finally, Simone agrees to talk with Tom and
meet Justus later.
Scene 12
Sonny chews out Mike for the made up excuse of Mike's showing too much
initiative at Luke's. Mike expresses ironic pleasure that Sonny can't take
anything more away from him, but he seems to be able to get under Sonny's skin
whenever he wants to. Stone arrives back from Mac's, and Sonny instantly picks
up on his mood. When Stone tells him about the exchange with Mac, Sonny angrily
stomps out.
Scene 13
Laura, coming to visit the Ward House, encounters Justus who gives her the low
down on his recent exchange with Tom. Laura relates how Tom still lets it be
known he feels she should have married his cousin Scott Baldwin instead of
Luke. To Justus' discomfort, Laura points out similar traits shared by Tom and
Justus, e.g. commitment, integrity, love of Simone.
Scene 14
In a well acted scene by Mac, Sonny confronts him at the Outback. Sonny takes
issue with how Mac treated Stone. Mac fumes about how Stone may have infected
Robin and killed her. As they approach coming to blows, Felicia arrives to
defuse the situation. After Sonny leaves, Felicia tells him he saw Harry and
got a snippet of evidence.
Scene 15
While lunching at the Outback, Tom tells Simone that she knows about the lives
he's saved in Africa, but she doesn't know about the lives he's taken. [Anybody
think this guy's got a screw loose? Maybe, he'll mount a campaign of
psychological terror against PC.]
Scene 16
Justus and Laura tediously jabber on about Luke and Lucky. She worries about
how soon her son will be dragged into a life of violence. She also expresses
her fear that without her influence in his life, Luke might fall over the edge
totally.

Here's a 4th of July bonus. It basically has nothing at all to do with GH,
but I wrote and liked it, and hey, this is my update. So ...
====================================================================
A moment to reflect on Fourth's gone by.

We were a fireworks crazy gang in the summers of the early 60's. I had not
yet gone to college, and two of our friends had not yet been forced to join the
Marines for waking up one morning and putting a two inch steel tipped high
powered rifle shot into a near by water tower causing the most engaging
75 foot long stream. The fourth of July was better than Christmas. We lived
for the fourth. We loved fireworks, and we were sure somebody would know
somebody who knew somebody who was going to one of those states where they sold
"the big ones." Money was no object. And sure enough we would get a gross
of cherry bombs and the beloved M-80's. Enough firepower to take a small
country. Now, don't get the impression we were careless. We knew how to
handle the stuff, and to my knowledge no one was ever seriously hurt.
We all knew the rules, especially the Rule #1, "Never give a girl a lit
cherry bomb." It will, inevitably, end up on the ground in front of you.
Yes, those were good Fourth's. I may be hopelessly old fashioned, but I
don't see any Nintendo game ever duplicating the incredible adrenalin
rush as you hold a lit M-80 watching the fuse burn down until the right
moment to throw it so it explodes in the air. At least not until you can
loose fingers from playing it. Ah, yes, those were the days.

Happy Fourth of July
John
