The hot stupid summer plots continue:

KATYBLAH AND MAC:
Mac is sitting at the Outback and K., sensing vulnerability, is concerned
and willing to listen. Mac tells her about Stone and she's concerned. "Oh,
dear!" she gushes, "and here the money I almost bilked from the Nurse's
Ball could have been what saves Robin!" [No, but I was indulging in wishful
thinking]. Mac gets to give the AIDS lecture of the day. He still blames
himself. Robert would have done better. He still hates Stone. Katybelle,
who is trying for redemption beyond the Natasha role, tells him how well he
did with Robin. She says Damian has turned into a major bore, with only one
thing, and she does mean "thing", on his mind, [spitting] Lucy Coe.

Damian turns up and Katherine tells him about Stone and Robin, then they
revert to Boris and Natasha. D. has Lucy right where he wants her.

ALAN TORPEDOES MONICA:
Monica is staring at her hair and when Alan comes in she tells him she is
tired of wigs. Prince Charming says she is always beautiful to him.
"That's why I keep you around", Monica responds. She's nervous about her
presentation to the hospital board about the Wellness Center. Alan
wishes her well. (pun unintentional.)

At the hospital Dr. Fogarty comes and enquires how things are going, and
Alan says he thinks Monica is taking on too much. Later, at the board
meeting, after a beautiful presentation by Monica, Fogarty questions how
well she can do all this work considering her health. Monica looks
daggers at Alan, who knows his life is on the line. Dr. Cahill speaks to
Monica's energy, and the Wellness Center is approved unanimously.

Monica is furious! She hardly lets Alan explain the truth, which is that
he replied as a husband. Bobbie hovers like an Amy-clone till Monica
huffs away. Alan: "What did I do, can you answer that? Why am I ALWAYS
in the wrong?" Bobbie says it may not be personal. Alan asserts it is,
and Monica is too thin, always on edge. Bobbie chuckles, "You better not
tell her that."

STEVE TORPEDOES TOM
Audrey speaks to Steve about the Chief of Psychiatry job for Tom, and
Steve points out that Dr. Collins has proven to be an excellent doctor.
At the board meeting, after dealing with the Wellness Center, they take
up the psychiatric chief position.

Kevin paces. Tom, smug, comes up with Audrey, and Steve tells him the
board voted 5-4 in favor of Dr. Collins. He has to admit he cast the
tie-breaking vote. Audrey is angry that Steve wouldn't vote for his own
son. Tom has a moment of being shattered that "my own father doesn't
believe in me" but Audrey's solicitations fix him right up: "I don't want
you to worry about this, Mother -- I intend to get everything I want, no
matter what it takes."

LUCY TORPEDOES HERSELF:

Kevin is sitting at his desk and Lucy comes in. They both sit quietly,
till Kevin asks "what's your excuse?" and Lucy says she's sorry about
walking out on him the previous day. (It's now two days after the
Nurse's Ball). Then she asks him "What's yours?" (These two understand
each other so well.) He apologizes to her. Lucy is amazed, no one ever
apologizes to her. Kevin is worried about Tom. He points out that Steve
is Tom's dad, and nepotism is not something Lucy had thought of, so Lucy
lucies (my verb) on about that for a while. Finally she notices that for
some reason this is not cheering Doc Kev up, so she suggests he talk to
Madame Maia. The phone rings. It's in her purse, and behold, it's
Madame Maia!! Were her ears burning? No, MM says, that's a clairvoyant
old wives' tale. She has Lucy's scarf. Oh, it must have emanated
special vibes... well, not exactly, says Maia, she saw Lucy wearing it.

(Earlier Damian came to see MM, who told him his dossier wasn't of much
help. She warns him that Dr. Collins is dangerous, because he forces
Lucy to be her best self. [I initially liked this greedy old bag, but
she's rapidly ending up on my s***list, unless she redeems herself soon.]
Damian gives her an envelope for information on stock and real estate.
He wants to impress Lucy.)

Madame Maia is reading her book [perhaps it was ghost-written? By a real
ghost?] and is very impressed with how good it is. Lucy comes in, and MM
tells her "I see change--- a windfall" Lucy is thrilled with the idea of
lots and lots of lovely money. [I thought she was independently wealthy
with Dom's money, is it just not enough?] It's an investment... Woodland
Glen. As Lucy leaves, MM comments to herself "I'm so good."

Kevin is pacing. Lucy comes in, and fortunately there are no patients.
"Oh, you never have patients, Doc." Razz has come up with this
dialogue. Lucy, it's what I do! Well, Lucy wants to use his phone. Doc
Kev suggests she use her own, the cell-phone in her purse. Oh, yeah. So
she calls and invests $10,000 in Woodland Glen, which is when Kevin
remarks, "Ladies and Gentlemen, that sound of glass spheres hitting the
ground is Lucy losing her marbles." He tells Lucy he never spent $10K on
anything at once in his life [though two days previous at the Nurse's
Ball he was sure ready to!] and that she's lost all perspective. You've
thrown ten thousand dollars into a sink hole. "You exasperate me
completely, you know that?" "Yes, but you love me, don't you?" "Yes I
do, God help me."

Steve calls with the good news that Kevin is the new Chief of
Psychiatry. Kevin is thrilled and Lucy breaks out the champagne. Do you
always carry champagne in your purse? Well, she just knew he'd get it.
Or, alternatively, a fine French champagne is just the thing to tide one
over in disappointment.
