FAMILIES IN PORT CHUCK

I suppose most soap-opera stuff is about families, in fact, probably most
writing/movies/stories in general are, but today it was really the obvious
theme on GH. We start with the Quartermaines and Cerullos.
It's scary to me how much the Cerullos resemble my inlaws, never mind that
my inlaws are Pittsburgh Polish instead of Bensonhurst Italian. We even
had an aunt Rose with terrible furniture. MY family, however, never came
close to Quartermaine status.
It's breakfast time and the chit-chat is going on, Page being too ill to
come down, so Emily stayed with her. But where are the Cerullos? Having
their breakfast in the Jacuzzi, in the snow. (Reginald brings it, he's
all wrapped up and obviously COLD!) Turns out that Carmine and Gloria
actually like the Qs. Carmine and "Ed" don't agree on anything, but they
understand each other. So what about the wedding? Well, after Lois'
excitement yesterday, the wedding sounds like a real possibility. [Reality
check here. 6 weeks in my parish, at least, for pre-wedding stuff. Which
should be a lot better than whatever it was Icky and Leelee did. Ned
has the kind of history that would need some time to go into before a church
wedding, which is what I believe we're discussing here. Not an effort to
convert anyone, but a serious look at differences (wow, what a concept on
a soap! Never happen!)] Carmine makes some rumbling noises, but Gloria
is the one who states categorically that marriage is for keeps, forever, and
if Lois Marie has any second thoughts, now is the time to get out. Ned, who
only three years ago was crazy in love with Jenny, asserts that he will take
forever to make it up to Lois for his dastardly past. In the house, Monica
tells Edward about her plans for the Wellness group, and he cops
instantly to her need for financing up front. Alan is Prince Charming in
support.
It's time for the Cerullos to leave. Hugs all round. This has
gone well. Lila wants details about the wedding so she can make immediate
reservations for the rehearsal dinner. Lois remarks that the last year
has BEEN the rehearsal, and is roundly ignored. Lila plans to have the
dinner at the Oyster Bay Club, where they are still members, and since
it's far too long a drive back for the Brooklyn contingent, they will
open their house. Edward looks like he's swallowed a tack, but there's
no stopping Lila in full sail planning a party.
They leave, pushed along by the collective sigh of relief.
Monica expresses everyone's surprise... you mean a Quartermaine function
went well?
Later Lois comes to thank Lila. They discuss the difficulties of
Ned leading his double life.

The morning after, Justus and Simone are having breakfast, and
Audrey brings Tommy home. Audrey is so upset that later she can't remember
Justus' name when she's erupting at Steve. [Altzeimer's? I don't think so.
I think she's got a chemical imbalance and some of the symptoms, but some
proper regimen of vitamins/minerals will fix it.. Maybe because most of the
things she's doing, I do, and I don't think I'm senile just yet!] Later
Audrey confronts Simone, who tells her that she, Simone, needs a life.

David comes in from Lake Edna (YOWZA! Keep this man in PC!
He's gorgeous enough to be Keesha's dad, and I have liked his looks ever
since KFC found him) to find out what Keesha is up to. He's not
delighted to discover she's up to her hairline in love with a
Quartermaine and that they are planning to go to Paris as soon as the
last exclamation point is uttered. For some reason he doubts that it's a
passion for culture that is stirring in her --uh--- breast.
However, I was shouting at the TV, "you twit! she's old enough!
And it's Spring Break!!" which same indiscretion I hope doesn't
come back to haunt me next year when Stands-With-a-Book, 18 today,
decides to do the same thing!

The one non-family thing is Boris and Natasha, oops, I mean
Damian and Katherine, plotting (for a change) at the Port Charles Grill.
They are discussing the Charles Street Foundation with bad-guy accountant
Bob. But wait! They are plotting against a family, the cousins
Ned and AJ. Ned is there to supervise what AJ has done with the
Charles Street Foundation. To his disappointment, AJ has been
doing well, and the computer stuff is gorgeous. (AJ brags about
how well the 'puter is doing for the hotel, but if I remember
correctly, Ned canned the computer as soon as he got control of
the Hotel. Whatever.) Ned and AJ have an uneasy truce (it's important
that the Ch. St. Foundation do well) and when Ned leaves, Katybelle moves
in to spin her web. AJ remarks she has "no pride, no shame, no sense of
when to throw in the towel." She flirts with him, and he intelligently
comments that "the one person I trust less than Ned is you." Eventually
he leaves, and she looks smug. I think she's about due for the same
rubber room as Bobbie. She hears "GO AWAY!!" as "You divine thing, I
love you!" But in her fevered brain, anyway, things are going well.

Next week's update will be a day or two late. Happy Easter, y'all!
