Extending Invitations Guess Who's Coming To Dinner? ----------------------------- Ned returns to the gatehouse after rehearsing with Mary Mae and Miguel. {Even if I like Ned's singing...so glad we were spared that rehearsal!] He's decided to put aside his problems with Brenda's love life to make sure she has a terrific birthday after all she had done for him over the past year. But Lois isn't really concerned about the party, she's concerned about Lila's invitation to the Cerullos. Ned just can't understand Gloria's anxiety over a "simple" dinner and figures everyone will love one another. But when Lois likens the mansion to "The Big House" Ned finally gets the picture. He points out Lila can take the most stressful of social occasions and make everyone feel at home. However Lois knows that Carmine will know he's not in Kansas, er, Bensonhurst anymore. So up to "The Big House" they go to get some words of wisdom from Lila that Lois can impart to her mother. All Lila wants to do is to show the Cerullos how much the Qs love Lois and suggests that if staying at the mansion would be too intimidating then the Qs can arrange for a suite at the hotel. Lila even suggests if it would be better she could invite the whole Cerullo clan but Lois notes it's much too soon for that. Finally Lila suggests that they can discuss a formal wedding. Lois almost starts to hyperventilate. That might not be such a good idea since Carmine still uses weasel inter-changeably with Ned's name when discussing Ned. Some time later we see Gloria trying to practice ala Eliza Doolittle, "How do you do Mr. Quartermaine" as Ned prods Lois to call her mother once they have returned to the gatehouse. Lois finally does and she puts Gloria on the speakerphone so Ned can listen and talk. [Big mistake Lois!] Lois tries to explain the dinner is just a simple family dinner. Ned sticks his foot in his mouth several times including during a discussion of Carmine's sensitive digestive track when Ned suggests that "cook" will keep it simple. "Cook?" Ned's "solemn oath" that Lila will make Gloria and Carmine welcome doesn't help. Sometime later it appears they have convinced Gloria it will be ok. Now they just have to convince Carmine to come. When Ned points out to Lois she mentioned nothing about the wedding discussion Lois says if she's not ready to handle a wedding she can't expect her mother to be able to handle it. Ned reminds Lois that she has a whole staff to handle everything. When she claims she can't order people around Ned tells her to think of them as band members. Finally Ned has a subject that only they can make a decision on. Since they are engaged and really married he suggests they live together. It's great for Lois, she'd been waiting for the day, as long as they don't have to live in "The Big House." So once again Ned is back to the gatehouse. Extending Invitations -------------------- Brenda tries to get information about the party out of Sonny but he doesn't bite. Brenda finally agrees to let herself be surprised once in her life but she does have one favor to ask. She really wants Robin there and figures Mac may need to be convinced to allow Robin to attend. So Sonny agrees to help. At the same time at the Outback Robin and Stone are trying to figure how to approach Mac about the party. Finally Robin decided to use the "it doesn't really mean a whole lot" approach and Stone leaves her to try that tack. Lucy comes in and checks out the reservation book and finds what she's looking for. Her "friends" will be there. Back at Luke's Bobbie drops in and asks Mike how he and Sonny are getting along. Seems Brenda isn't the only one telling secrets. When he asks for advice she says father-son relationships are not in her expertise...oops...Bobbie you mean you have expertise. Luke comes by and after she admits things are at least on the surface better in the Jones camp she returns to whining about Tony appointing himself as Felicia's personal savior. Boris and Natasha finally enter the Outback but before they can sit down Lucy is at their table and sits herself down. She lets them know in no uncertain terms that's she's figured they are behind her problems at Deception even though they claim to know nothing. But Lucy is going to have the last laugh. She's found a new and less expensive supplier. When Lucy goes on her merry way Natasha figures they've just heard a lot of Lucy hyerbole but Damian isn't so sure. He's off to make a quick visit to Scummy. Once Damian gets to Scully's he informs him of Lucy's new arrangements and Scully agrees to take care of it. Meantime Robin has been doing the low-key "I really should make an appearance" bit to Mac and it looks like Mac might bite when in comes Sonny. He wants to make sure Robin will be at the party and as an aside invites Mac. Mac would not miss it for the world. Robin goes off to call Stone as Katherine inches over to Mac. She wants a refill on her martini but also complains about not being invited to Brenda's party, after all Katybell had been Brenda's boss at Deception. Mac figures it's pretty bad when the reason one gets invited to a party is because of one's teenage niece. Katherine tries to give Mac advice about Robin, perhaps it's time for Robin to learn things for herself. Just as Mac starts questioning Natasha about what she sees in Boris and she says they make a good team, Damian returns. He's a little jealous and lets Katherine know Scully is on the job. Back at Luke's Brenda and Mike talk about the party and Mike remarks that Sonny is reminding him of Adela. It turns out Sonny's mother was great at organizing and putting on parties and once at a party was the life of the party. But unfortunately she came from a very traditional Cuban family and Mike was not what Adela's father had in mind for his only daughter. She ended up with a lot of criticism. That launches Brenda into a discussion of domestic violence. Mike gets concerned when Brenda almost starts to talk about long term with Sonny. He warns her the Corinthos men don't stick around long. His father drank himself into an early grave and she already knows what Mike did to Sonny. But Brenda won't believe it. She doesn't believe committment is a genetic thing. Mike warns her if she asks too much of Sonny he might turn and bolt in horror. Lucy gets to Luke's and tells Luke and Sonny that the trap has been baited. Now she just needs to work her magic on Scully. Luke suggests poker but that's not to Lucy's liking. Instead she suggests craps. Turns out that used to be Scully's favorite game. So Sonny invites Scully to the back room the next night for craps, but... they will be using "house dice." In the words of Lucy Coe, Sonny tells Luke and Lucy that Scully "went for it hook, line and whatever."
