                           General Hospital Update

Who is this 'Soap Line' woman? Well at least it knocked out a commercial.

EdQ is listening to some blues. He doesn't realize Lila is in the room. He
gets up when the song is over and notices her. Lila notes that he was far
away and asks if MayMae used to sing that song. He not only says yes, he
tells Lila a whole story! He had requested that song, and MayMae used to sing
it whenever he came to the club. Eventually, EdQ got up the courage to ask
her for a drink. They spent the whole night together. Lila asked if they made
love that first night, he say no. She asks if, as that song said, he died a
little everytime he said goodbye to MayMae. He says no, basically he is fond
of the moment that occured and has nothing for MayMae herself. Lila insists
on pressing the issue in general and EdQ's feelings for Bradly. EdQ tells her
that he is not interested in reliving a past he can't change, that he'll deal
with Bradly thru Justus and the Charles St Foundation. Lila gives up, for
now, and goes out to stroll in the snow garden. EdQ leaves to meet someone.

Monica is prepping herself, she has major hair loss,  and Alan knocks on the
door. They have a nice reunion. Monica is thin and Alan pursues it for a few
seconds till she tells him to back off. They chat for a while, Monica asks
Allan to attend a meeting for family members. He agrees. They are sitting on
the bed having a pleasant chat, Alan bringing her up to date on all the
goings on in PC, when there is a knock on the door and Paige & daughter burst
in. They do a little song & dance inviting Monica to dinner when Paige
notices Alan. She is really embarrased and tries to take back the invite, but
Monica insists and gets Alan to accept also. Paige & daughter leave, Alan is
livid. How could Monica want to go out with strangers on his 1st night there?
Monica can't understand him, Paige has been her support and she wants Alan to
get to know her and daughter [if this isn't a setup for daughter adoption,i
don't know what is]. Alan storms out, then shortly returns apologetic. He had
finally felt needed when Monica called him from Arizona and he gets2 there to
find out Monica already has someone. Monica tells him that she does need him
and that Paige can not compete. She is tired and they lay down together,
coddling as Monica falls asleep, Alan looking wistful and concerned.

Robin comes to Luke's club with chicken soup for Stone. Luke comes in and
tells them that BB King is coming. He asks where Sonny is, Stone tells him
that Sonny went to Ruby's. Luke seems perturbed by this. He asks Robin about
Yale and she tells him she's thinking more of PCU. Luke is flumaxed, and
basically tells her to think again. Robin tears into Stone about blabbing to
everyone about her going to Yale. Stone counters with a rather cogent, strong
argument for Robin going to Yale. They leave to escort her to school and in
saying goodbye to Luke lets it be known that Mac doesn't approve of Luke's
choices of business partners. Later Stone asks Luke for advice on handling
the situation. Luke tells him the only thing to do is advise and suggest to
her, but not force the college issue.

At Ruby's Mike is being served and is taciturn to Ruby. He tells her he just
doesn't have it in him today. Sonny comes in and sits down. He asks Mike what
he wants, and more to the point, how much would it cost Sonny to see his
father's back. Mike tells Sonny that he just wanted to square things with
Sonny since a friend his age just had a stroke and died. Sonny asks if that's
the case, why the subterfuge. Mike has a non-answer, and when in the course
of conversing Sonny's mother name was mentioned by Mike, Sonny flipped out
and told Mike never to say her name again in his presence.  Sonny tells him
to stay out of his life, he doesn't care what he does as long as he stays out
of his face. Sonny then leaves without a gooddbye and Mike looks disappointed.
Sonny sees Luke at the club and tells him not to trust Mike.

Simone is at MayMae's and inquires about Justus. She misses working him, the
campaign, and then goes on about a couple of personal things and as she talks
MayMae, who seemed oblivious to the Justus whineing,  can tell that Simone
wants to unload and helps Simone along. [I thought this scene was played just
great, especially by Simone] Simone, who is visibly shaken and desperatly
holding back her emotions, gets into a lather and (basically a) monolouge:
                L I N E S   O F   T H E   D A Y (nonhumorous)
   "This isn't how my life is supposed to turn out. I'm not supposed to
   be married to a picture in a frame. I'm not supposed to be raising our
   son, alone. Especialy when I'm floundering myself. There isn't one place
   where I fit. How can I give my child any sense of identity. Maybe it
   would be different if Tom were here. Unh, I've got to stop that. Making
   excusese, justifying. Of course it would be different! And that's what's
   got me so angry. This wasn't our deal. This wasn't .. We were supposed to
   be together. But I'm here and Tom is halfway around the world. You see,
   when it was the 2 of us we were; creating our own identities, our own
   traditions, our own value system. But, then he went away and didn't come
   back. And now I'm starting to realize that there really is no place where
   I belong. No, its true. Look at my life. Straddling the fence between 2
   cultures never really coming down on either side with any convictions.
   Married, but not so I could tell, since I haven't seen my husband in over
   a year. Some thing just has to change, thats all. I will not leave my life
   trapped in the middle, standing for nothing."

The door bell rings, breaking up the moment. MayMae answers and we find out
it is ... EdQ [suprise!]. He immediately sees he had awful timing and
apologizes. Before he can leave Simone tells him she has to go. The 2 ladies
hug, Simone offering thanks, MayMae worries. Simone tells her that the
thoughts were allways there, just she usually does a better job of covering.

EdQ and MayMae sit on the couch and start talking. He starts apologizing and
MayMae tells him to quit doing that. Besides, he did as she requested,etc.
They reminise (sp?) a bit, talk about the times and their emotions. We see
the spirit of Bradly enter the room [this whole bit was really hokey] as talk
eventually turns to Bradly the man. EdQ grants that there is a lot of Bradly
in Justus and how he admired Bradly as a man willing to stand. EdQ swears he
can feel Bradly's presence, as Bradly has his hand on his shoulder, and
MayMae says 'duh!' They part and MayMae dissolves into tears as she looks at
the snow through the window and Spirit Brad hugs her.
