General Hospital Update for Monday, January 30, 1995
by Jeff Jungblut

The first few minutes of GH were pre-empted. Miss Soapline unctuously
informed us of what she saw that we missed:

"Sonny finally came face to face with his long-lost dad Mike. And what did
Sonny say after all these years? "I never want to see you again."
Meanwhile, the Quartermaines banded together to save Lois. There's no way
they're gonna let Katherine send her to jail."

Now let's join General Hospital, already in progress...

Scene 1
At Luke's club, Sonny and Mike are in the middle of a tense discussion.
Sonny tells Luke to fire Mike, that he wants him out of his sight.

Scene 2
At the Outback, Bobbie and Tony wander where they'll go from here. At
another table, Lucy asks Kevin what he plans to do to get Bobbie and Tony
back together.

Scene 3
At the police station, Mac tries to talk Katherine out of pressing charges
against Lois. He reminds her that if it comes out that Ned is a bigamist,
Ned would retaliate with the information he has on her past in New York and
her revenge could blow up in her face. Katherine would be facing charges
then, not Lois. Katherine insists she can't let "insignificant nobodies"
like Lois get away with assault.

Scene 4
Justus arrives at the police station and introduces himself to Lois as her
attorney. Lois doesn't want his services if it has anything to do with Ned.
Lois admits to Justus that she feels humiliated because she reacted
violently to Katherine. Lois replays the scenario at the Outback,
mentioning that Katherine grabbed her first.

Scene 5
Kevin tells Lucy that he can't do anything to assure that Bobbie and Tony
reconcile, even if that's what they want to do. Kevin says Lucy should mind
her own business. Lucy says she can't, to which Kevin replies that she
can't because if he's able to solve Bobbie & Tony's problems, then she
wouldn't have to feel so guilty about causing them.

Scene 6
Luke tells Mike he had him pegged as a con man but didn't realize how good
he was. Over drinks, tells Luke the two-minute history of he and Sonny's
mom: After coming back from Viet Nam in '64, Mike met Sonny's mom, Adella at
a dance. She was a Cuban refugee living in New York. They hit it off and
Sonny was born 10 months later. Mike worked at a shipyard not making much,
got into gambling to make ends meet which Adella didn't like, got laid off,
got a job truck driving, then just stopped coming home around the time Sonny
was four years old. Adella later married a cop, Deke Woods. He went back
to see Sonny a couple of times but never stayed long. Years later Mike ran
into Sonny at Coney Island; that's when Mike found out that Deke and later
Adella had both passed on.

Scene 7
At the courthouse, Katherine tells the judge what a dangerous threat Lois is
to her health and safety, recalling how Lois is insanely jealous of her
relationship with Ned and how she was viciously harassing her when she awoke
from her coma. (Yes, Lois was in Prime Bitch Mode.)

Scene 8
Justus, in an eloquent explanation to the judge, summarizes Katherine's
actions as the last-ditch effort of a woman scorned. The judge asks
Katherine if the gentleman in question was married to Ms. Cerullo; Katherine
asks "what difference does that make? She clobbered me and I'm swelling to
prove it!". The judge suggests that if she doesn't know what difference it
makes then she re-align her moral compass. He then orders the case
dismissed. Katherine is pushed further towards the edge when she leaves the
courtroom and passes a snickering Sean and Mac.

Scene 9
Tony and Bobbie agree they won't get far going over the same old ground over
and over again. Tony says he's willing to bend a little if she will.

Scene 10
Back at Sonny's place, Sonny tells Luke that he shouldn't have fallen for
Mike's con and that he's in no mood to compare childhood tragedies. Luke
continues with the story of his father abandoning him (paraphrased): "The
last time I saw my father, I was seven years old. We had no food, no heat,
only a half-empty bottle of cheap scotch. My mother had just died...from a
burst appendix...in front of my eyes. My father took one look around,
polished off the bottle, and walked out on me, my three year old sister, and
my mother's body. So don't tell me what you're going through."

Scene 11
Kevin and Lucy continue bantering back and forth about why he should help
her get Bobbie and Tony back together.

Scene 12
Ned and Brenda arrive at the courthouse to find out how Lois is. Justus
tells Lois that the expression on Katherine's face was payment enough and
then leaves. Ned and Lois talk a bit more and she's obviously distancing
herself from him again.

Scene 13
Sonny tells Luke that even after Mike left his family, Adella never stopped
loving him. Sonny says Mike had his chance years ago and he never wants to
have anything to do with him again. Luke says if his own father walked in
right now, he'd want to get to know what kind of a man does that to his
family...and how much like his father he might be. Luke says don't be to
quick to brush off his dad.

Scene 14
At Damian's apartment, Katherine blasts in and relays her version of what
happened at the Outback and the courthouse. Damian mocks sympathy and
Katherine pouts a lot, vowing more revenge against Ned, Lois, the
Quartermaines', etc...

Scene 15
Ned arrives at the Quartermaine mansion and tells everyone that the charges
against Lois have been dropped and Katherine was fit to be tied. Alan tells
the family that Monica asked him to join her, so he's flying out to Arizona
in the morning.

Scene 16
Sonny has a flashback of his parents arguing...Mike telling Adella that she
"never should've had the kid in the first place, but she had to get pregnant
right away? what about me and what I want? I'm sick of this crap!" A door
slams and Adella calls out to Mike. The flashback returns to Sonny looking
all teary-eyed and hurt.
