From: jyarnot@netcom.com (Jan Yarnot) Subject: GH: Update Thursday January 12 Date: Sun, 15 Jan 1995 17:37:47 GMT Wheeling and dealing in Port Chuck: 1. At the Outback, Sean (in what is probably his last appearance, I guess: I'd thought maybe S&T would show up at Luke's club, but that is apparently Not to Be) is talking to Mac about impossible Robin when who should appear. Sean attempts to jolly her into talking to Mac: "I suppose a career in table setting is an alternative to an Ivy League education." Robin says the whole thing is a power struggle. Sean compares it to the sports strikes, which is probably not a good thing, considering how major league baseball is going (*sigh*). Just as Robin is beginning to talk to Mac, in comes Stone, with the exciting news that B.B.King is going to be at the opening of Luke's. But Robin is grounded. Sean mumbles something about how he and Tiffany could chaperone, Mac would like to go himself, and Robin flares "If you go, I don't!" Ah, but Stone has the answer... he and Robin can watch from Sonny's apartment and be All Alone for a really exciting night. Robin will sneak out for this. However, later developments look like she's destined never to get lucky... 2. Luke is bubbling about his club to Sonny and Stone when Lois comes by to see Sonny for a minute to ask what he thinks of the video idea. He is, logically enough, stunned. "He's kidding!" but he says it's Lois' call. Lois leaves to ponder, Sonny leaves to check a manifest. Mike comes in. However, Luke has checked his "resume" and he is not hired but thanks for trying. Sonny returns, Harry comes in to tell him there's trouble with Cusack. Luke is suspicious, but still euphoric about his club. 3. Lois tells Ned OK, but be aware that he is not buying her. She tells Brenda about it, and Brenda is thrilled, especially when she finds out that she will also be in the video. I assume Vanessa Marcil did this part from experience.. Miguel comes in and eventually understands they are making a video with him as the star. Lily comes in and Miguel begs Brenda or Lois to tell her what's going on, as he can't remember his lines and look happy at the same time. Meanwhile, Lily has good news of her own, she has been hired to teach Jr. High Spanish. Brenda starts to say something about how Lily won't have to work once she marries Miguel, and I was so busy yelling at the screen I missed her slightly confused save on this. They tell Lily about the video and (Ominous Knell of Doom here) say "I know you're not the jealous type". But then! Lois has a flash of inspiration! The theme of the video will be Miguel torn between two loves, sexy bad-girl Brenda and virginal innocent Lily. Brenda says to Lily (and, my guess is, to Ricky Martin) "sometimes acting natural takes professional training and experience." Later she suggests Lily have no makeup at all. Brenda is suffering from jealousy bigtime, not about Miguel, but of the chance to be the star of Miguel's video (much as Vanessa Marcil was of OnceUponAPrince's video, which I haven't seen). Lois points out that this solves the jealousy problem with Sonny (and there's yet another Onimous Knell of Doom!) Later Brenda is in a real snit, and it's apparent she had become the star with Miguel as an accessory, in her mind. I keep hoping this is all leading to M. leaving the show, but it's hard to see how. 4. AFTER MANAGING EDWARD, MANAGING A MULTIMILLION DOLLAR CORPORATION WILL BE A PIECE OF LO-CAL CAKE! Jason is attempting to get Edward into better health. Edward wants to enjoy the time he has left, but Ned comes in and points out that if grandfather doesn't behave, "any time you do have left will be spent in the hospital." They go to the home gym (which I'd guess Edward has never seen before!) Jason keeps him on the exercise bike. "Slow and Steady." Cukie has one good line of the day, about endorphins and the pain in the groin, but the one I wrote down was "If I'd been slow and steady all my life I couldn't afford this setup!" Edward thinks Ned wouldn't be interested in the Charles Street Foundation because it's a business proposition. Ned looks worried, with good cause. Meanwhile, AJ is visiting Justus at the firehouse, and MaryMae is there as well. They discuss the possible representatives to the foundation board from Charles Street: Dr. Phillips, who is a pastor, not a businessman, but he has a lot of experience in getting mileage out of every cent; Orval Leeds, who owns a lumbermill upstate and the hardware store that used to belong to MaryMae's late husband; and Simone Hardy, who is smart, pragmatic, and well-connected. On the Q. side, there is Edward, AJ, and Lee Baldwin. Justus and AJ start verbally sparring. While the word "racist" isn't actually uttered, it's hanging in the room in glowing neon. Why is AJ getting an attitude? Justus asks with a fairly big attitude of his own. Justus as a grad degree in law but a minor in economics, and a lot of experience. AJ, ever Mr. Tact, tells Justus to Get Over it. He leaves and we get the Mandatory Political Child Care message from MaryMae. Take that, Newt! Justus calls an apple-juiced Edward and says he's not comfortable with AJ and would like Jason on the board. Edward says it's out of the question, hands Jason back his apple juice, and heads off to a double martini. -- Jan Yarnot, net.granny, RABbabe It's a BIG Universe, Nifty Fifty! and we're not.
