Date: Mon, 19 Dec 1994 23:04:43 CST From: U14780@uicvm.uic.edu Subject: GH: Update for Mon 12/19/94 By: kathy%gundog@lbl.gov (Kathy Ellington) General Hospital Update for Monday, December 19 [lost a few minutes while local asshole-ish ABC station showed clips of people donating canned food at some local supermarkets - ACK! ACK! ACK!] A brief Monday update in semi-modified Johnny style On the porch of the Spencer house, Lucy tells Laura that Luke is worried about her; Laura is beside herself with joy when Luke suddenly appears. Lucy had smuggled him back to PC and hidden him under a rug in the back seat of her car. Luke and Laura cover each other with kisses; Lucy tears up at the emotional scene. Laura tells them that Saint Sonny has assured Luke's safety so they don't need to worry about retaliation by the mob. Luke, still hurting, comes into the house and gently flops on the furniture. Luke related what happened in Puerto Rico after he got shot. He washed up on some beach the night he was wounded. It was night and he phoned Lucy at the hotel. She smuggled him into the hotel in a basket of dirty laundry and nursed him in her room. (She used the contents of the mini-bar in her room to cleanse his wounds.) Then she got Luke some clothes, rented a boat to get them to Key West, and bought plane tickets from Florida to NY. Lucy finally beats it. Alone, Laura tries to be angry at him for leaving her behind [how can I leave that behind??] but she can't stay mad. She insists, though, that Luke make up his mind about being a full-time husband and father. No more roaming around; he agrees to be a good hubby from now on. At the Q household, Monica, Edward, and Lila yak about the trial. Lila tells them they all have to maintain Quartermaine dignity during the ordeal. Monica wonders aloud why Mae-May had to spill her guts; Jason replies that MM probably felt she had no choice but to blab all when it looked bad for Eddie the Q. Lila wants to speak to Edward alone so Monica and Jason beat a discreet retreat. Alone at last, Lila wants to sort things out with Edward. He asks her if she'd guessed the truth; she says she "felt" rather than knew the truth. Edward talks about his time in the armed forces, about how he felt disillusioned, fearful, and lonely. He told Lila that he felt he had to maintain a facade with her, to make his letters upbeat. He said that May-Mae understood how he felt. Edward says he never really understood his relationship with May-Mae and Lila replies that she understands and can make him understand now [huh?? "I don't understand" .. Miguel Morez]. Edward thanks Lila for putting up with him over the years. He admits to being and old fart and not being worthy of her. Lila wants to know how MM was in the sack (although she phrased it "Was MM a good [pause two-three-four] singer?"). Edward says that both he and MM were lonely and afraid; they were kindred souls in those days. He says he never thought of it as being unfaithful to Lila; his friendship with MM was so different and they were friends first. They became lovers, logically, and he said it wasn't so much passion as it was a comfort for both of them. After he received his orders, they said goodbye. Edward said he never heard from her or saw her again until the night Bradley Ward died. He gets choked up over never known his son, Bradley. Reginald interrupts this emotional scene to announce that May-Mae and Justus have arrived. Over tea, MM explains why she spoke up (reasons above...things looking bad for Eddie, etc.). Alan wanders in with Jason, A-J, Monica and Ned. Alan warns them that reporters are camped outside the Q's gates and are probably waiting at the Ward house. Justus stirs things up a bit when he says that even though MM spoke up, there's still a possibility that Eddie will go down for the murder. Justus jams Edward up about not acknowledging Bradley as his (black) son. Eddie avers that race didn't have anything to do with his decision; Justus snorts derisively and keeps yammering on and on about how embarrassing a black son would have been to Edward. Then Justus hints that Myrna Slaughter, who testified for Edward against Jack Boland, may have been paid to say that she saw Jack with Edward's gun. Edward mutters that he hopes the jury isn't as hard on him as his own grandson is [note to Justus: after your outburst today don't count on a big block of ELQ stock in your Christmas stocking!]. Ned tells Justus he's a true Quartermaine, because being argumentative and a big, loud jerk is in the genetic makeup. May-Mae and Justus leave then, before everyone can become embroiled in the incinerator argument. Before they can go, however, Ned tells Justus that the ELQ board has decided to relocate the incinerator across the river in a non-residential area. Justus churlishly tells him that he's sure ELQ will still make a profit. At the Outback Club, LeLee tells Mac that Monkey-boy was "magic" in Puerto Rico. They discuss Luke's disappearance and Mac tells LeLee not to feel responsible if Luke ends up as Shark-Chow. Then LeLee blabs on and on about her/Mig's love-child, Juan...double-yawn. LeLee flaps on about what a noble knight Sonny was. Mig gets her alone and proposes to LeLee. Incredibly enough, she accepts his proposal. However, she throws him a slight monkeywrench when she says he can't slip her the old pork chop until AFTER the wedding. He agrees, then goes to the dictionary to look up "pork chop". End of Monday' show...and please take it easy on the substitute updater for the next two weeks.
