Date: Mon, 19 Dec 1994 12:02:00 CST From: U14780@uicvm.uic.edu Subject: GH: Update for Fri 12/16/94 GH Update for 12/16/94 By John R. Andrews, UIC It's a big day in PC. With Mae Mae providing some explosive testimony about Bradley's murder. Scene 1 Brenda questions Lois about her over scheduling of Ned. Lois counters he needs to be taught who's boss. Scene 2 In the courtroom, pandemonium [literary note: Pandaemonium was the name given to the capitol of Hell by Milton] threatens to break out as Mae Mae interrupts the proceedings. After the judge removes the jury, Mae Mae tells him she knows Edward could not have killed Bradley Ward. Scene 3 The prosecution vehemently objects to her taking the stand, but the judge asks that she and the two lawyers go into his chambers to hear her testimony. Scene 4 Ruby brings groceries to Laura, and they banter about the missing Luke. Scene 5 Brenda asks Sonny about Luke, but he knows nothing. Lois begins to rant a bit about losing a loved one. Sonny defends Ned saying he's put himself through a lot to get back with her. Lois, with eyes flashing, snaps back at him. He says she just needs to get back at Ned to be even. Scene 6 Sonny relates a story about how Lois got revenge on a school chum for a trick he played on her. He says she's got to get even with Ned to be able to get over it before it messes up her mind and L&B. Scene 7 Mae Mae takes the stand to tell her story. She says she was a singer in a blues club years ago where she met a young sailor. They grew close and briefly became lovers, but he was shipped overseas. They corresponded for a while, then she discovered she was pregnant with his child and sent him a letter explaining she didn't expect anything from him. He wrote that he would offer any help he could, but she didn't answer the letter, though she kept it. She raised the child, Bradley, herself telling no one who the father really was. The next time she saw him face-to-face was the night of Bradley's murder. Much of the rest happened as she had testified before, but when she couldn't sleep she went to the Port Charles apartment of Edward Quartermain. Scene 8 Ruby tries to reassure Laura that Luke is fine, and they reminisce about when Luke and Bobbie came into her life. Scene 9 Mae Mae says that at first Edward didn't recognize her. She told him she knew all about what he and his friends were trying to do to Bradley and threatened to reveal to everyone that Bradley Ward was his son unless he backed off. As proof she produced the letter he had sent her years ago. Lila watched looking hurt and concerned. Scene 10 Emotionally, Mae Mae continued to testify that she went home and heard Bradley phone someone. Eventually, she fell asleep, but was awakened by the gun shots. When she found Bradley's body, she assumed he had committed suicide. After burying the body, she returned to Edward's apartment and told him to see to it that any investigation be dropped and that Bradley's reputation remain untarnished by scandal. On cross-examination, DA Schultz suggests that Mae Mae, in telling Edward about Bradley may, in fact, have given him a strong motive for murder. Scene 11 In a scene which must certainly have been written to showcase Ricky Martin's lack of acting talent, Miguel confronts Sonny about something bothering him but due to his ineptness I was never quite sure what it was. [Note to GH writers: never pair Miguel with anyone as forceful as Sonny. It only highlights his lack of emotion. I suggest you start with someone less dynamic that he can out emote, say, BJ Jones.] Scene 12 Edward's lawyer gives his summation. He goes over the points in Edward's favor and points a finger at Jack Boland as the real killer. Most of it is just a rehash of things we've seen in past shows. In his closing arguments, DA Schultz concentrates on Edward's possible motivations for the killing. He reasons that they didn't really need to kill Bradley since they had evidence that would certainly neutralize him, but when Mae Mae told him he was Bradley's father, Edward could not afford the scandal for his family or the possibility of years of blackmail by Mrs. Ward, so he removed the threat. He concludes by asking who had the strongest motive to kill Bradley Ward, and who had repeatedly over the years showed that he would do what needed to be done to protect his family. Scene 13 Lois and Brenda bubble to Sonny about where to go for Miguel's next concert (Hawaii seems to be the choice), but Miguel is closed mouth [or maybe the scene just wasn't long enough for him to read his lines]. Scene 14 The judge gives instructions to the jury. He stresses that their deliberations should focus on whether or not the defendant is guilty and not on the guilt or innocence of other persons. As everyone leaves, Lila asks Mae Mae if she, Keesha, and Edward's new grandson will join them back at the Quartermain house for some soul food. Mae Mae accepts, but says she'll bring the music. Scene 15 Laura gets a visitor. It's a sunglassed Lucy Coe who whispers suspensefully that she has news of Luke.
