Daily Updates
From: yarnot@babbage.ecs.csus.edu (Jan Yarnot) Subject: GH: Update: October 6, 1994 Date: 7 Oct 1994 00:38:17 GMT Oh, geeze. First day I do an update all by myself, and it's B.J.'s birthday, so a three-hanky day. I'm hoping I got the quotes right, my pen was smoking. (And it's a vile habit, but enough about that.) Jason knocks at the Ward door and asks Keesha to come for a walk in the woods. She asks him "how much do you know about your grandfather?" Keesha tells him what she's found out about Bradley's murder and the hushup of the investigation (of the disappearance, right, Nancy!) Jason has been mightily stressed out by family events of the last 24 soap hours and this is just about the last straw. Seems like there's always blackmail and big money projects where the Qs are. "Keesha, this happens to me all the time." [She's in for as big a culture shock as Lois if she gets involved with the family!] Jason puts off the walk till another day [I don't suppose "rain check" is the appropriate phrase here!] and goes off to confront his grandfather. Edward is being cordial to Sean, who finally noticed a clue when Lois handed it to him, and Monica comes in and says she'll handle it. This banter was fun to watch. "What brings you here?" "Oh, the usual, murder, drug poisoning, blackmail." Then Sean brings up Ray Conroy. Monica ain't giving away nothin'. "Isn't it a pity all that evidence disappeared?" Then she points out that a joint family plot to steal the evidence, to poison Katybell, and to cover their tracks would play havoc with running a major company and practicing medicine. She also reminisces about old times "right upstairs in my bedroom. What fun we had." [So someone set the updater straight? (My book doesn't cover this time, I don't think.) Was this when she threw the Qs out and they lived at Kelly's? Sean actually lived in the mansion?] Sean agrees. It's when he learned that Alan was willing to kill. And Monica learned how good Sean was at swindles. They do some more verbal fencing, and Sean points out that Lois' remarks are hearsay, that the evidence, even assuming there was any left, has been compromised, and that he and Garcia couldn't find any new evidence. [Mighod, he actually sounded like a cop!] He supposes no change-of-heart confession is forthcoming? Monica says no, this is not a Perry Mason story. Lois also told Sean why Katybell won't talk, assuming she is ever again able to. Monica remarks that "Lois certainly knows a lot for having been in the family 20 minutes." So, the Conway case is closed. Except, just hypothetically, Sean would like to know why it wasn't reported. Just hypothetically, Monica mentions that she and Alan had been having problems, and he was where he wasn't supposed to be. Then she brings out the big guns [and I thought she'd pretty well covered the territory up to now!] and points out that she needs Alan now more than ever. Sean says she's "still one hell of an operator" and agrees that the Conway file will gather dust till the next time the writers need a long-forgotten crisis to threaten the Qs with. However, he's still on the poisoning, and no amount of good memories or sympathy will save Alan if he's involved. The same if any new evidence is uncovered. Monica asks about the chances of that and it's billion-to-one odds. [Of course, this being a soap, that means it's sure to come back some day!] On the poisoning, who hated Katybell? "Try opening the phone book." Bobbie and Tony meet at B.J.'s grave. Bobbie is looking at a picture taken at B.J.'s picnic party last year. And now look, Mac and Felicia aren't getting married, and Bobbie and Tony are apart. "What happened to the people in this picture?" Tony agrees. "We have to do better than this." Lucas is being emotionally neglected. This morning he was in B.J.'s room. [I really doubt he's got a clear grip on when B.J.'s birthday is, as most kids his age aren't very good with a calendar, but it sounds good.] They agree to go home and get B.J.'s clothes together for the Bradley Ward house. As they work on this, and reconciliation looks possible, the doorbell rings. It's Lucy, with a pansy posy, as pansies were B.J.'s favorite flower. Lucy is looking very lost and very tiny, and Tony hugs her. He asks her to come in, and when she sees Bobbie, Lucy offers to leave, but Bobbie says no, it's OK, B.J. loved Lucy, too. They hug and cry. Lucy finds a tiny outfit, and first remembers B.J. in it, but then thinks how Serena is now too big for it. Eventually, with the outfit and the pansies, Lucy leaves. Bobbie and Tony go to the Ward house and give the clothes to MaryMae. When MM took down the picture of Bradley, I was afraid we were going to get another loooooong story about St. Bradley, but MM has had some hard knocks this week and limits herself to saying she lost a child too and it doesn't get easier. "Own the moment." Lucy, meanwhile, has gone to Kevin's office. She's still looking very lost and very vulnerable, tells Kevin about it. She asks him when it starts making sense, and he thinks never. He holds her and she cries on his shoulder. [I thought maybe we were going to see Cheryl's fantasy. Turned out to be almost as frustrating as Lucy's story the other week.] Then Lucy asks Kevin if he'd ever lost anyone he loved. In fact, HAD he ever loved anyone? Kevin comes very close to telling her about Grace, but ends up calling her his "friend." Lucy gets apologetic and starts to cry again and gets another hug. But she's learned, "keep people at arm's length, love never works out." Men keep leaving, and then there's Scott and Serena and B.J. Kevin points out that "Once love happens, you don't get a vote." [Anyone watch Babylon5? "Once the avalanche has started, it is too late for the pebbles to vote." No? Never mind.] Lucy asks again, "Have you ever been in love." Kevin sluffs it off with a "Oh, haven't we all?" and Lucy accuses him of buttoning himself all up. Here the FGC Kevin crew has to get to work, because while I know he was unnerved by the revelations, I think he lost it. He accuses Lucy of using B.J.'s death to justify playing games. Lucy quite rightly is offended and accuses him of getting his diplomas as cereal prizes. "You don't know one single thing about me." Out she goes, still clutching the pansies. [WOE!] Teasers: Jason storms in to see Edward, and wants to know what all the Bradley Ward stuff is about. Edward and he are in a loud argument when Monica comes in, says the family has to stick together because of the outside problems, but she's neutralized the Ray Conway one, anyway. "Mother may be down but don't count her out." [A good fight always restores health to a Queartermaine!] Bobbie and Tony hold baby Natasha and give her a dress and talk about B.J. Lucy leaves the pansies at the grave. She is crying. So am I. [Am I going to let the writers manipulate me so obviously? You betcha.] I hope next week isn't quite the emotional wringer of this one, really I do. -- Jan Yarnot, net.granny, RABbabe | OK, I love you, bye-bye!
