Notice to Update-readers: I find that the sight and/or sound of Ricky Martin is
simply too irritating for me to bear. Since there is enough stress in my life,
I have decided that I can no longer bring myself to write about the Miguel
character. Therefore, starting today none of the Monday updates will contain
a description of any scene in which Miguel is the main character. If people
think this is an unacceptable position, then I can turn Monday updates over to
some Miguel simpatico who can better describe the buttery sheen of his hair
and the nails-on-chalkboard like qualities of his voice.

General Hospital Update for Monday, September 19
                     [Presented in semi-Johnny Style]

Two main storylines continue today: May-Mae/Justus/Luke and Ned/Lois/etc.

At May-Mae's house:
Friday's ending scene is replayed. The viewers see MM sleeping in bed; some-
thing awakens her [we viewers hear a gunshot]. MM thinks it was thunder or
something that awakened her; right after she wakes up she hears a gunshot.
May-Mae thinks that that gunshot was the one of Bradley committing suicide.
She continues her tale of woe about Bradley and the night he died. Tearfully,
MM tells how she found Bradley's body. After she heard the shot she put on a
robe and went downstairs. She wandered out into the yard looking for Bradley.
She found him sitting (slumped but upright) on a bench near the rose garden.
His right hand was outstretched on the bench and there was a gun (his gun)
sitting loosely in his right hand. She sat down with him [excellent and heart-
wrenching acting on the part of Rosalind Cash] and comforted her dead son.
Then she tells how she buried him, carefully moving his body so as not to hurt
him any more she dug a deep grave and maneuvered him into it. She buried him
herself because she could't bear the thought of her baby boy being disgraced
in death by the men who had hounded him. Then she cleaned up the area. She
picked up the gun and came back to the house. Her robe was bloody from
burying the body, but May-Mae could't bear to get rid of the robe or even
wash it ("it would have washed all that was left of Bradley out of my life
and I just couldn't do it"). Instead, she hid her bloody robe and the gun
under the eaves in the attic. Luke says quietly, "and 20 years later Lucky
and Sly found what you had hidden." Justus turns a surprised face to Luke.
MM and Luke explain how Sly and Lucky found the gun. Luke says he never told
Sean about the gun. He says he emptied the gun and there were 4 bullets left.
The boys fired one round. "The other one killed my father" says Justus.
Then Luke says that he and Laura found something else when they searched
the attic. He presents Justus with a box. Justus opens it and inside is MM's
robe. "My father's blood!" cries Justus, deeply moved. Then MM goes on to
explain her years of guilt and pain as she kept the awful secret to herself.
Justus is clearly struggling to understand. Luke asks MM if she has any
ideas about why the investigation into Bradley's "disappearance" was dropped
by PCPD. MM replies that she thinks the people who hounded Bradley to
suicide had, perhaps, guessed what she had done and decided to let the whole
thing die down. A troubled Justus has been pacing the room and finally says
he cannot believe that Bradley killed himself. He says that his father
wouldn't have given his enemies his life...it was out of character, he
COULDN'T have done it. MM pleads with Justus to accept the obvious; Justus
says he'll never accept the suicide. In an effort to calm things down, Luke
says they've all been through a lot that night and suggests that everyone
sleep on what they've discussed. Justus sees him out and goes for a long
walk; MM sits in the living room, slumped in her chair.

At the Outback:
Friday's ending scene is replayed, with baby-girl Lois jumping out of the cake
and telling Katherine that she (Lois) is the real Mrs Ned Ashton! The crowd
is stunned into silence. Brenda deflates like a cheap balloon and sinks down
into a chair. Meanwhile, Lois steps out of the cake and down to the floor.
She presents Katy with her birthday gift: it's a copy of Lois and Ned's
marriage certificate! Lois also announces to the room that Ned Ashton is
really the rocker Eddie Maine. Gasps galore! Everyone's mouth is hanging
open. Sonny asks Brenda what's going on. She says "the end of the world!"
Katy waves the certificate under Ned's nose and demands "what does this mean?"
Lois snaps "it's the end of Eddie's double life, it means that you're NOT Mrs
Ned Ashton, I'm NOT Mrs Eddie Maine, and it means that Mr Ned Ashton is the
biggest liar on the face of the earth!" Ned squirms and Lois bolts from the
club. Katy restrains Ned from following her at first; then he shoves her
aside and gallops after his doll-baby. Katherine looks stunned and sick. Ned
catches Lois outside the club and demands that she listen to him.

Outside the Outback, Ned does some fast-talking about why he lied to Lois.
Firstly, he assures Lois that he loves her and only her. Lois opens upon him
about marrying her under false pretenses, letting her live a lie, having an
affair with Katherine and eventually (and unbelievably) marrying the bitch!
Ned reveals Katherine's blackmail of the Q family that included marriage to
him as part of the package. Lois asks him what kind of family would allow
that? [hey, WE know the answer to that one!] Ned tries to put a positive
spin on the whole fantastic scheme by pointing out that he's not "really"
married to Katherine anyway because he married Lois first! She isn't buying
any of his contorted logic, though. She's also angry that he never told the
Q's about her...didn't he think she was good enough for his snooty family?
Ned tries to explain that he wasn't embarrassed by her, but he was embarrassed
by his own family! Then Ned babbles quickly on about having finally gotten the
goods on Katherine so as to neutralize her threat to the family. Now he can
dump her and she can't hurt him or the Q's. And isn't that great, Lois??
Haven't I been a clever boy? He also says that if she doesn't believe him,
she should ask Brenda! That opens up another can of worms and Lois says that
Brenda's betrayal is another matter entirely. She says she'll deal with her
ex-girlfriend herself, and as for Ned she'll never forgive him. Lois stomps
off into the night. Ned looks helplessly after her, worried and distraught.

Inside the club, Katherine is fuming and fizzing. She tells Edward that she'll
clean Ned out and put him in jail. Sonny angrily asks Brenda why she didn't
tell him about "this mess"? Ned re-enters the Outback and quickly tells
Brenda that Lois is aflame with anger. Katherine butts into their conversation
and informs Ned that she's going to sue his ass for bigamy and she's going to
see him penniless before the whole megillah is finished. Ned flares up and
says, "that's not going to happen!" He grabs her by her fleshy upper arm and
roughly pulls her toward the door. Lucy strolls through the melee, Kevin in
tow, and sighs with pure happiness, "I wouldn't have missed this for anything
in the world!" A-J slithers over to Edward, and asks him what he thinks of
Ned now that he's been revealed as a bigamist and rock star? Edward replies
that the only thing he's worried about is Ned's damage-control over KatyBell.
Among the guests are Tiff and Sean, who's just aching to arrest someone for
bigamy! Tiff reminds him that he's at the party as a guest, not a cop...Sean
just smiles.

Outside the club, Ned explains the brutal facts of life to Katy. He tells her
he's legally married to Lois; Katy says he's a bigamist and he agrees with
her. Brenda rushes past them, announces that Sonny's furious with her/them
about the whole thing, and that she's going to find Lois. Ned suggests the
gatehouse and she scurries off. Katy stares after Brenda and announces that
she's going to nail her as an accessory to the bigamy charge against Ned.
Ned says that Kate's in no position to press charges against anyone. He says
he knows about her past, the embezzlement and the pirated software. "So who's
looking at a jail sentence now?" he asks. Inside the club, all the old folks
are jabbering about what happened. Filly and Mac decide to tranquilize them
with some songs by Monkeyboy.

Outside the club, Katy's still spewing venom at Ned but he paints a grim
picture of her future life in prison. Ned adds that he'll make sure that
Damian ends up in prison, too, for his participation in the software pirating.
Katherine tells him that she can't believe Ned actually loves Lois ("that
creature"). "More than you or she will ever know" he replies. Katy glares
at him. She says it would be worth going to prison as long as Ned gets
nailed for Bigamy. He outbluffs her and says that she'd better consider her
actions carefully. He suggests she book a room at the PC Hotel that night
(and implied "all nights thereafter") and that she do some serious thinking
about her options. Katy leaves and Edward and Lila meet up with Ned as they
exit the club. Edward starts to blather at him but Ned tells him that he'll
explain everything at home...later.
All Lila wants to know is this: was that really Ned in those leather pants
on the CD cover? Ned's look at Lila is totally priceless!

Brenda finds Lois at the gatehouse. Lois is packing furiously and Brenda
tries to apologize and explain. Lois turns on her and accuses her of helping
Ned deceive and use her. Brenda tells Lois the whole story, reiterating how
much Ned truly loves her. Lois is bitterly hurt that Brenda, her best buddy,
her partner in L&B, her truest girlfriend has betrayed her trust. She says
she doesn't believe the tale of blackmail and Brenda tells her to ask the Q
family; they'll back Ned up. Lois picks up her stuff, storms out the door
and heads for Brooklyn. Before she leaves, in response to Brenda pleas, Lois
tells her that she can never forgive Brenda for not being truthful with her.
