give out flyers but you can do that without actually interacting with someone. Just stick the flyer in the mailbox or the crack of the door or something and be on your way.

We get a lot of those kind of solicitors as well. It seems like any time anyone on our block has any kind of home improvement service done, we get a knock on the door and someone saying hey, we just did the <roof, lawn, driveway, etc.> for your neighbor down the street and would you be interested in us doing the same for you? It's not an inherently BAD way to do business but yeah, I prefer a flyer. Also, a lot of these businesses give the home owner a sign to stick in their yard--"Roof by Anderson" or "Greenlawn Lawn Care" or whatever. I don't mind those; those are actually pretty good advertising. Dad's considering having some of the trees and higher shrubs around the house removed (which would further cut down on the number of critters trying to access our attic); one neighbor had a tree removed and the business left them a yard sign to display, plus they put flyers in our mailbox. Dad's hanging on to that flyer.

Also as an aside, when I was growing up I watched a LOT of cop and crime shows, and shows like Night Court. On them, there were always women that were supposed to be prostitutes being arrested and charged with solicitation (how did I know what a prostitute was? who knows). Around town, almost all stores and restaurants would have a sign up that said "No Solicitation/Soliciting", so as a result I thought my town must have had a HUGE problem with prostitution. I did not learn the other meanings of the word for many many years. 😂😂😂😂

LOLOL! That's very understandable!
