But the Hawaii goat cheese I kept. It was warmer than 40 degrees, but it was also preserved in olive oil when I bought it, unrefrigerated. The guy said it was safe up to two weeks without refrigeration. I bought it April 4th and it was put in the fridge when we got back April 6th. But whenever I take it out of the fridge, it has to get warm enough for the olive oil to liquefy, and the olive oil was still solid yesterday when the power came back on so I'm keeping it. Probably won't serve it to anyone else but I will happily eat it!
Funny thing was when I went to Lidl to replace a few things, I couldn't get more goat cheese (it's a spreadable cheese) because every single container was expired. When I'd been there on Monday, most were marked May 11 and I didn't buy those because it was the 11th. I had to dig around and find one that was dated the 30th. This time, they were all marked the 11th and there was even one in there with an April date. I actually took the box and found an employee and gave it to him. Not sure how that happened, they're usually on top of taking out things that are expired and marking down things that are close.
