... to the cottage :)

Thank you kindly!

Watching it for the 3rd time now.

Relatable. I have no idea how many times I've seen episode 6.

I'm at 5 times now.

So much to unpack. I loved it so much, and one thing I did not.

I'm so glad. It's such a relief that you liked it since I told you that you would.

You were so on the nose about it!

~The ride from the airport. Thanking him for inviting him to the cottage. Taking his hand. I love how their conversations have shifted.

I love that whole section. "But terrifying, yes?" -- and the part where he busts out laughing at Shane's cover story.

~Ilya's sarcasm is my happy place. So many great lines/moments. Such as: Your father must be boring. Is that where you get your boring?

Shane's response being that his father works for the Treasury Board of Canada is so funny. I also generally like his insistance that it's not boring, it's normal!

Yes!

Shane. That is kinda the definition of boring, working for the treasury board.

McGill clipped the "McGill? Wtf is McGill?" bit for their social media with the caption "We're just happy to be included."

😁😁😁😁

Stupid Canadian Wolf Bird! 🀣🀣🀣. When they are playing the hockey game. Well, you're not anything! I'm on the cover of the fuqing game!☠️

We see so much of how famous Shane is, that I did enjoy Ilya getting to point out that he is also SUPER FAMOUS.

Me too. He was like, dude -- don't flex on me. I can flex right back!

~All of their tender moments. There were many! Ilya laying in Shane's lap and telling him that he was 12 when he found his mother dead, from taking a bottle of pills. 😒 Shane literally being stunned by it. Not sure what to say or do.

The scene at the fire is the last thing they shot so there's also this BTS clip with the ceaator/director where Hudson is clearly emotional and reaching back to hug him. It feels like such a nice note to end on for the shoot. I can't even imagine what this ride has been like for the two of them. Total obscurity, both waiting tables, and then six months later, they've got 2M IG followers and are presenting at the Golden Globes.

Oooo. I would love to see that. Please provide the clip if you can.

They are either putting on the most impressive act for the press ever, or they're best friends, so at least they have each other.

Yes. Way less lonely that way.

~Good morning. Good morning. I like you! I like you too!

I loved that. Eight years in, and they finally wake up together.

FINALLY!

~Don't get me started on the BJ while he was on the phone with Hayden. 😈 The way Ilyas was acting watching, his crotch and his glee when the flag was at half-staff because he knew he could make it go full staff. And he did!

Ok -- I have read the books at this point (read between 5 and 6 because I was losing my mind), and I did not like that scene in the book. I thought it was cringe and I was hoping they'd skip it. But the adaptation was honestly brilliant. It's all in how Connor and Hudson play it, and Ilya's honestly pretty adorable (I also enjoy how, having finally gotten Shane to himself, he is mad about every single interruption. I kinda get it.) On the show, this scene is so funny and cute. The creator said he wanted it there because it's boyfriend behaviour and he wanted to show them transition. All the stuff with Ilya hitting him on the face was apparently something they came up with the make-up trailer and the creator told Connor "Ok, if you want to hit him, that's fine, as long as Hudson doesn't mind you smacking him around." But Hudson is generally game for anything. They've all talked about how happy they are with how that scene turned out and I think it's one of the best moments of direct adaptation with the performance really adding to the execution.

It was so well done. The only thing I would have changed would have been bobbing a little slower but I guess he literally wanted a quickie and at this point--knows exactly what he needs to do to make Shane "erupt." 😈

I also love how stern Shane is. "What are you doing?"

~Shane not wanting to own that he is a freak and likes the bad stuff because it's in his rearview mirror. He's madly in love with Ilya and has been for quite some time. Ilya took a tad longer but he's there too but tries and fails to cover it by being the strong, masculine, stiff upper lip type. But when he's around Shane, that just melts away. He can be his authentic self. He can wear his feelings about this man that he can see a future with.

oooh, we can debate the whole "who fell first" thing -- though the actors have both said they think they were both in it from the first conversation. I'm a big fan of that moment after their first time at Shane's apartment when Ilya asks if it was worth the wait and Shane just gives him these two very gentle kisses and you see Ilya's face register "oh no" like he realizes he's having feelings and he needs to get out.

I need to go back and watch from the beginning.

Have we talked about the stairway kiss in that episode? I love it so much.

Nope. In a word, magical.

~Don't marry Svetlana! Just don't. We can figure something else out, okay? Okay! Loved how Shane's eyes were welling with tears and in that moment, Ilya understood.

I love everything about that scene. Their feet touching on the couch. Hudson has said that Shane doesn't realize how much he wears his heart on his sleeve and he feels like, if the tears don't fall, he isn't crying. The line "I do not ever want that problem to ever go away" is one of my favourite moments of the series.

πŸ«‚

~I loved Shane's plan. He's so smart. The charity is a great idea and the tie-in to honor Ilya's mother, no less! I LOVE YOU! I mean... I love you too! OMG, I love you so much! Fuq Hollander (cries) to me, it was the vulnerability. The fear. Did I say too much? This man means everything to me and wants a life with me and I want one with him so bad. I'm going to grab this happiness.

I love that moment. I also love that he's whispering it over and over again in Russian before he busts out the actual "I love you." And then Shane's total shocked delight. "I mean..."

It was as if, Shane was ready to say it at any moment but didn't want to muck things up. Then, this man who is is madly in love with -- says it first and he's gobsmacked and a split second later -- says it back and they melt into each other.

What do you mean, Ilya? How are you planning to walk that back?

Right? I believe he was caught up in the moment and his mouth blurted out what his heart has been carrying for quite some time.

But then he gets the "I love you, too."

But come on, Ilya. He just laid out a 10-year plan to eventually be together. You gotta know he loves you, too.

~Bringing him coffee and a blanket the next morning--while they watch the sun come up! *Swooooooon *

They have sunshine!

OMG. The way the sun danced off the water -- perfection!!! It was so picturesque, beautiful, and a touching moment. I need the shot of them as my background ASAP. I took a pic with my phone but it didn't come out the best. I am going to try to find it online because it is truly an awesome sequence.

Also, I know it's as subtle as a hammer, but I do love how we got the sunset in Florida right before Shane forces a conversation about their feelings -- like that's the end of their previous relationship and now we get the sunrise on the new version.

I love that! Very poetic.

~I knew the second Shane put the shades down and Ilya put them back up--they were going to be found out! Shane's freakout was so on the nose. He grabbed on to Iyla for comfort, security, and support. He embraced him and did his best to calm him down and reassure him that it's going to be okay.

There are so many good subtle things in that scene. Ilya is completely serious, which he rarely is. He lightly guides Shane's arms around him to bring him in for the hug. I love the whole "You're brave." "Shut up." "You are." "I feel like I want to die." exchange.

Yes. Shane was in full panic mode and Ilya knew he needed to be his rock, and in that moment, he was Gibraltar.

I also love that we know Shane's parents adore him -- he is the centre of their world -- and this is still terrifying for him. He's so scared.

I also love how convincingly he drops to the floor. It really looks like he just can't stand up anymore.

That too, and held onto Ilya for dear life. What a powerful moment.

Even offered to go with him to face his parents. That's love! And LOL@ Ilya coming out in a Boston shirt and short, shorts and Shane's like, really? What? They don't know I play for Boston? Loved the scenes at his parents' house.

Another moment straight out of the book and I was really hoping they'd keep it. When the episode stills came out, they only gave us three, but one of them had Ilya in his Raiders t-shirt and I was like "YES!"

~Loved the family scenes. It all rang true.

I've talked to people from Europe about how it's legitimately confusing for them that Shane doesn't want Ilya to say they're lovers because that's the word you'd use in Russian -- it's very sweet, it means beloved or boyfriend -- and Shane, of course, is not wanting his parents to think about the fact that he and Ilya have sex so he's horrified by it.

That made me chuckle. I thought lovers was fine. Way better than, we've been hooking up, banging, or the F word.

Shane stopping Ilya from eating because his momager was in full damage control mode and Ilya sucking up the pasta--secretly. πŸ˜‚

Ok -- I apologize if I'm telling you a ton of BTS stuff you already know, but it delights me: Apparently, Connor commented to the creator that no one actually eats on TV and he said "That's because they have to do 76 takes and it's too much to actually eat." Connor said, "No, I think I can do it." -- and you can really tell he's eating. The creator said it was maybe the most impressive thing he did. "He ate, like, 14 servings of pasta."

Not at all. I love it. Keep it coming.

Shane's mom apologizing that that she made him feel like he couldn't tell her. Shane telling her that she forgives him. But the cherry on my sundae was absolutely Ilya calming Shane down when he was freaking out:

Those are all top-tier moments. I've seen so many people weeping on the internet over his mom apologizing.

She's a good mom. Hell, love the dad too. My one friend was like, but come on -- they said they pretty much knew already so why knee jerk reaction. I was like, because now it's REAL. They were caught in a compromising moment.

Shane. It's okay. You are okay. You're with your family. You're with your boyfriend. 😚 rubs the back of his head. Yuna: Since rookie season. David: Summer before. Please text first. We'll just be there at 5. Please text first!

I love that moment. Also, shout out to "Weren't there any nice men in Montreal?" "I don't know, probably."

But mostly Ilya being VERY Ilya and being also pretty perfect. You can understand from that exchange that David and Yuna are going to love him.

Yes. And I love, love, love the fact that they got to witness how much Ilya loves their son. How comfortable he was with kissing him. That's what he meant by: We are okay here. You're family is here. Your boyfriend is here. His parents GOT it and they were touched by it.

Showing the end credits superimposed over them driving back to the cottage was a stroke a genius. They survived. They can exhale now. The sight of how happy and in love they are at that point--warms my heart so. I wish you could see the kool-aid grin I had on my face. Oh yeah!

They played the song and just had the actors improvise. I really love that moment right at the end where you see Shane holding Ilya's jaw and making a face. It's so hopeful and sweet. And you can see how Shane is starting to relax into his new life. It's a whole new plane of existence for him.

Preach!

As for what I didn't like. Only six freaking episodes and having to wait until 2027 😩😩😩

God, I know. But I want season two to be good, and I'll wait. No one expected this to happen.

I concur.

SO glad you liked it! So happy to read your thoughts about it, too.

Likewise. It's my happy place. My one buddy and his husband told me, it's on a constant loop at our house.
