Last week, whereas I would normally have worked Wednesday night, I had the whole day off. The store manager assumed I had big Christmas Eve plans; I didn't, except for attending our usual CE church service. I'm usually off Friday...I worked Friday night. Here's where it got interesting. Our store has only three key holders: SM, "B" (Big Grandma Energy) and me. SM always works all day Sunday, and she usually works open to close at least one day a week. B and I usually work open to close on Thursdays. I often work Tuesday morning with SM and B closes on Tuesday, and I often am off Friday so B closes on Friday. I'm almost always closing on Wednesday, sometimes on Monday and always, always on Saturday.
But...
Last week, I was closing on Friday and working Saturday morning with SM, which really threw me. And B was opening Friday in anticipation of the big post-Christmas rush* and closing on Saturday. Except she thought Friday was Saturday and was still in her jammies when SM texted her 15 minutes into her shift to ask where she was. Oops. But it worked out well for me; when I got in, B was on her way out. SM sarcastically asked B "When are you coming in tomorrow?" and B sheepishly said 2:30. Which I thought was weird because I knew "H" was working the afternoon shift Saturday and I ALWAYS close on Saturday, so why would SM need three of us there, especially when two of us were keyholders? She then asked me when was I coming in on Saturday and I had to say um...I have no idea. I could've been the one who slept in on the day I needed to be in for the early shift.
* On Friday, I was anticipating a mix of people using gift cards and people returning unwanted items. I got plenty of the latter...not a single person came in to redeem a gift card. Or even buy anything really.
No NYE plans, which is how I like it. I'm working all that day but we close a couple hours early for the holiday so no big deal. I have a light schedule this week--off today, Thursday (our store is closed for NYD but some Chico's aren't) AND Friday, which will be good for my soul and good for doing some straightening up but bad for my bank account. The holiday decorations don't come down till after Feast of the Epiphany, which is January 6. I was shocked yesterday when I found out my good church friend had already taken down her Christmas decorations (she did so on Saturday). I...don't know if we can still be friends <g>.
