If your cards in past years didn’t rekindle your friendship, I doubt that a card this year would either.
It has been literally decades since I sent a Christmas card. Their kids are grown now...it's possible they're feeling a void right now without kids to raise and are looking to expand their social circle so maybe a card WOULD be seen as an attempt to revive the friendship (which really wasn't much of a friendship to begin with--more of a "shared circumstances-ship"). But I'm just speculating here.
I am wondering why the card came from Becky’s husband, not Becky. What happened to Becky?
I don't think anything happened to Becky. I feel the card came from her husband because the newsletter was entirely from his POV. As was last year's (much cheerier) newsletter. It might simply be a Christmas chore Becky decided to foist off on hubby since I remember (long) past newsletters definitely being written from her.
