It ended up with me completely reorganizing the garage, which really needed it. It's full of stuff from our storage unit, and no offense to any men here, but man I really needed to be there when this stuff was unloaded. Mr. Kris, his best friend, and my friend's son all emptied the storage unit and brought everything into the garage. But what they didn't think about was that all the things at the front of the unit were the things we used the most - Christmas decorations and camping supplies. So since that was first in the truck, it was first in the garage and buried at the back. 😑

Last year, when it was time to box up Christmas and return it to the attic, I did most of the work...but somehow, things still went pear-shaped thanks to Dad's "help". I'd bought two identical plastic bins last year that I stuck gift boxes (both the kind you use for clothing and the kind you use for odd shaped gifts), gift bags, some bows, etc., in. Those boxes were supposed to stay out on the main floor but somehow one got moved to the rafters with the rest of the Christmas stuff. And somehow my tree topper* did NOT, nor did the ancient paper mache Holy Family that is placed under the tree every year (I think it's Avon...and a quick Google shows I'm right [link] ). The Holy Family somehow got unceremoniously dumped in the bin with wrapping paper, with rolls so tall, I can't put the lid on the bin.

* Up until recently, we had three different tree toppers. Many years ago, I got one at Target that was a star made from thin gold wire and crystals. I thought the crystals would shine nicely against the tree lights...they do not. The topper before that is an 8-point star, with each point a different colored "glass" (plastic) and a white 5 point star in the center. When I didn't use it on the tree last year, Dad put it in the bathroom and plugged it in as a festive nightlight <g>. Two Christmases ago, I went to Pop Shelf and found a festive red top hat tree topper that I absolutely love. Our tree is all mismatched ornaments and whimsy so the top hat topper is perfect. I did get rid of the gold wire star this year at a Christmas decorations swap at the local library.

I started bringing everything up to the deck and inside, and broke my favorite Swedish mug that I was SO excited to find while carrying the box it was in inside. And then was mad it fell and broke so I kicked the box over and broke my Smurfette glass and a Camp Snoopy glass too. Menopausal rage is real, y'all. I did buy a new mug on eBay though, it came in yesterday and I had a drink in it last night! I don't think I'll try and replace the Smurfette and Camp Snoopy glasses - they had been in a box for probably 20 years so I really do not need them.

I'm glad you were able to replace the Swedish mug! In elementary school and junior high school, I was friends with a gal whose parents came here from Germany. The family went back to Germany occasionally to visit relatives and on one trip, my friend brought me back a really pretty red mug with a Christmas tree painted on it. I long ago lost touch with Christa but I still love that mug.

There's also two inflatables - one a crab, the other a penguin.

Um...a crab and penguin? That's different and fun!

Mr. Kris's best friend is probably coming over later for a bonfire and drinking and I asked him how he is with ladders because I have some snowflake lights I would really like to put along the front of the house but Mr. Kris is NOT a fan of ladders. I am so-so with them, it depends on if I can use the big stepladder or if it has to be the big ladder.

I'm with Mr. Kris. I like to tell people I'm not afraid of heights...I'm afraid of falling from them. Ladders are a good way to do so!

Anyway my family room is currently FULL of Christmas decorations that I need to finish going through tonight, to see what we'll use this year and what I may want to get rid of, and finish decorating inside. I'm not sure where I'm putting my nativity.

What is this "get rid of" thing you speak of <g>? I try every year, I swear, but at best, I might donate 2-3 things. And then get 4-5 things the next Christmas. I try to at least keep the new items small. Earlier this year, I got a cute ceramic deer at Target that I want to put out on the shelf with my many (small) Christmas trees, in all styles. It went upstairs...heck if I can find it now :-(

The little tree in the bay window is one I bought last October, it's the "Showtopper" tree from Hallmark and when I got it I also was on the waiting list for a Christmas Vacation topper (it's the house from the movie). Well, when I got back from NC last year after my mom's surgery, I had the tree but could not find the topper. I never found it while moving so I had to buy another one this year. I suspect that it was accidentally thrown away when I was out of town, since I never found it while moving (though honestly I forgot all about it but I feel like I would have known what it was if I found it).

Aw...

Good luck decorating!!!!

You too! I was out most of today attending a Christmas party and picking up a few things for a holiday craft I want to do, and I half suspected Dad would've dragged down the tree and put it up (sans ornaments--that's my job). I didn't really want him to--I would worry about him doing himself an injury in the process--and yet I was still a little disappointed to come home and not see the tree up.
