8 isn't too old for a stuffed animal, and a quick Google shows lots of options (plus a rather cool looking game at Target called Capybara Crash toppling game that involves putting small plastic capybaras on a board that's wobbly and taking them off until the board tips over). It's very kind of you to participate in the Angel Tree!

A few years ago, our local grocery store had something similar for senior citizens. I already donate to Toys For Tots, plus I take a bag of toys down to our local "fill the sleigh" Christmas event in town, so I thought it'd be nice to give a couple elderly people some Christmas cheer. I picked a man and a woman; both wanted gift cards for a grocery store. The man also wanted a sweater (surprisingly hard to find these days as stores fill their men's clothing section with hoodies and flannel shirts), and the woman asked for some small kitchen items like dish towels and a spatula. I would love to do that again this year and had even suggested it to one of my associates at work for this year's charitable Christmas giving. I didn't know this last year but our boss picks different charities each year at Christmas and demands...uh...strongly encourages us to donate. Last year we did Toys For Tots, so I thought that was what they did every year. But so far this year, I've not seen any Angel Tree-type displays for seniors.
