defer to Dad in all things automotive because that was his area of expertise before so many systems became computerized but he's notoriously cheap, and I did wonder if his recommendation was truly legit or if it was just a way to save money.
I plan on doing one of two things to pay for my tires; I will either skip a car payment this month* or possibly see if I can redeem my credit card points and apply them to next month's bill.
* a brief recap...I paid off my car this summer by tapping the savings account that has both my name and Dad's name on it. It's really Dad's account; he just had my name added so a) he can get a quick $20 every now and then (he never got an ATM card) and b) I could use it when he passes to pay for immediate expenses. I was grateful, as Associated Bank is a terrible bank to do business with, for so many reasons. Dad of course doesn't care when I pay him back...but *I* do. I divided up the amount I borrowed into a monthly payment just slightly higher than I was paying and have been faithfully making a payment every month, but I can always skip a month if needed.
