This is so sad that he has to be thinking about this right now. The cost of cancer care in the US is outrageous — even if you have “good” insurance; even worse if you are underinsured or uninsured. And it’s about to get worse for millions of Americans. He clearly doesn’t want to bankrupt his family, only to die anyway and leave them with no money. Most people don’t have Dawson’s Creek treasures to sell. But that doesn’t make this any less sad for JVB and his family.
I was so very lucky to be diagnosed with cancer at its earliest stage, therefore requiring much less treatment. And here I am, alive and healthy, 13 years later and, while I’ve never had a lot of money, I’m not bankrupt or homeless because I had cancer.
