Mine needed repairs and I ended up having a handyman come in and do some basic repairs - one was a hole in the ceiling over the washer/dryer (the vent had become unattached in the ceiling), paint that closet, paint three doors, replace a bathroom fan, replace a ceiling fan, and repair a cabinet where the bottom was bowed. All in all it cost around $800. My realtor had suggested putting it on the market between $210 and $215, and I went with $215 - my husband wanted higher but I absolutely didn't think it would get more because the comps in the neighborhood that had gone for over $220 had updated kitchens and flooring and I wasn't painting or doing anything in the kitchen.

I ended up getting three offers and sold for $10k over asking without an inspection. And the guy that bought it is gutting it (my husband's bf still lives in the building and we pick him up for trivia every Thursday and can see updates through the window). He painted it a boring white but hey, not my condo any more!!!

I don't know if the handyman I used will travel to VA but he might. He was really reasonable, I thought for sure it would cost twice that. And once I decide what color I want to paint our awful family room (it's light grey and purple with a black chair rail 😐) I'm going to have him come paint the new house too. I usually do my own painting but with that chair rail I don't want to risk it.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do - getting everything rolling in motion is a huge step! We should have moved years ago but just kept delaying and delaying and kind of fell into it and I couldn't be happier.
