I ended up getting quotes from three different companies, for a 2.5 ton outside unit and interior coil replaced. Two were around $8900, but the third was $7000 because they offer a 'seasonal discount' since we're heading into winter and who needs a/c in the winter? (we do because half the time September is as hot as August here). I think they also can offer better deals because they're an offshoot of the electric company. One company had a thing where you would pay monthly, but all the maintenance was included, and if anything broke all labor and parts were covered 100%. It sounds great, but when you add it all up you're basically paying double for the unit. I also really did not want to add in yet another monthly payment, when we already have a few extra now being in the house that we didn't have before.
I couldn't remember if I updated about the condo, but it officially sold on Friday, just in time for me to spend a chunk of the $ on the a/c, lol. One thing that has me facepalming is even though I specifically asked if I had to pay the mortgage on the 1st (I was pretty sure no) and was told that I did not, I thought I had already canceled the autopay. I had not. So even though I thought I'd escaped having to pay two mortgages, nope, I gamed myself and paid it. I contacted the company and they said that 15 days after everything is paid off (and their records already show the mortgage as paid) I'll get a check with the mortgage payment and anything that was left in escrow. Kicking myself though!!!
