AND IT WAS AWFUL.

I need people to know that sitting in an airconditioned train car with free WiFi isn't a picnic. do you know how slow WiFi is when an ENTIRE TRAIN is trying to use it? It basically means you have nothing.

if you download 3 hours of content but you're still on the train 3 additional hours?

But here's the worst part: We had to stop because storms took down trees that landed on the power lines. after the trees were removed, they still had to inspect the structures that hold the wires up and ensure there was no damage. Did we learn about this from the conductor? NO! they didn't know ANYTHING. We started getting texts about the delays while the conductor stated multiple times over the intercom that "they didn't know what was going on."

so we got stopped at Route 128 station in MA for 40 minutes, then limped at reduced speeds to New Haven where we stopped for a little longer than I liked. then another hour stop in CT somewhere between Westport and Norwalk. after that we crawled for a bit them stopped dead just north of the East Norwalk train station.

I live there. Amtrak doesn't stop at the Norwalk stations (there are 3) it goes from New Haven to Stamford. So I'm sitting in the train looking out the window AT MY OWN TOWN and I cannot get off the train. another hour goes by and this angel in an off-white pantsuit/jammies/leisure suit walked into my car (second from the end of the train) and says, "I don't know if anyone knows, but there are people saying there's a door open at the platform. I haven't seen it myself, but if you want to go check it out, go for it."

i was not going to let that chance pass, so I gathered my things and walked about 5 train cars and low and behold, there is ONE DOOR open to a temporary platform (the station is totally under construction, so it was moved across a street, making it MUCH farther north on the tracks than I knew it had been.) I ran down the platform like i had just escaped prison, lol. called hubby and was like, PICK ME UP AT THE DINER!

If the conductor had made an announcement about the door being open at the platform, I might have been able to escape the train a lot earlier than I had.

i hate Amtrak!!!
