I think too many times, the Gilmore girls' relationships with guys were just not written as well as Lorelei's and Rory's relationship with each other. Which makes sense--the title of the show is Gilmore Girls, not Gilmore Girls and the Guys That Love Them--but it was painful to watch sometimes.

It could have been "Gilmore Girls Make Horrible Dating Decisions".

IA. My most unpopular GG opinion is I haaaaaated Rory/Jess. Many fans think Jess was Rory's "best" boyfriend but I hated that he actively worked to get her away from Dean (more on Dean in a moment) and I hated how he (IMO) kind of started her down the path of being a not-so-good person. I really hated Rory missing her mom's graduation from business school because she just HAD to run away to NYC to see her beloved Jess *vomit*. Yes, I know she didn't intend to miss the graduation but still, she's smart enough to figure out that it was a possibility and going another day would've been better. Then again, my bias is showing...I have never, and will never, understand the appeal of the bad boy. I also thought Jess was a bit of a bully and a mean tease when he was first trying to get Rory's attention. I did like how Jess straightened himself out by the time Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life rolled around, and I always liked Jess' portrayer.

I liked them the first time around, but then this (my second time watching), I realised it was more I liked Jess. If they hadn't tried to do a spin off about him then not do it, maybe they could have explored Jess and Paris, because those two clashing would have been epic and fun to watch (and an idea I just had as I was typing this).

Ugh...I hated Logan too. Stealing boats is cool? No thanks. Logan was an entitled brat who thought he was cooler and smarter than he really was. I liked Max well enough but like CanaryFan98, I thought he was too good for Lorelei. I went back and forth on Christopher, probably because I felt the writing for him was inconsistant.

The character of Logan is probably the one thing that doesn't play well in 2025. He *is* an entitled brat. I know too many things about David Sutcliffe now to be able to enjoy Chris, but I did like him my first watch. But on the rewatch...there's a reason why he and Lorelai never ended up together!

However, another unpopular GG opinion of mine is I actually liked Rory/Dean...in the beginning. At first, he was sweet and smart (though not Rory smart) and respectful but then they started giving him some unpleasant characteristics (he was possessive and jealous and grew less tolerant of Rory's interests when they were so different from his). And don't even get me started on him cheating on Lindsay with Rory. Again, I'm sure I'm biased because I generally like Jared Padalecki. Anyways, I was glad when Rory bumped into him at Doose's and he got to inform her that he was now happily married with kids and was a relatively successful...um...architect? I know it was a decent-paying occupation <g>.

I'll let you know what he ended up doing next week when I rewatch A Year in the Life! I had forgotten the cheating. That is 2025 GH levels of character assassination!

I also think that, while definitely unintentional, almost every character on the show is neurodivergent in some way.

I hadn't thought of that...interesting!

It wasn't written to be that way at all, so they don't 100% fit (but real life neurodivergents don't either). However, so many of the quirks...Kirk definitely is. Luke's irritation by all his customers fits. Lorelai is a textbook definition of ADHD. Once she was starting a new project and Rory is like "But you have all these other unfinished projects!" and Lorelai is "NEW PROJECT!" Marrying Chris in Paris is definitely ADHD impulsive. Rory and Paris often exhibit traits. It isn't anything obvious, but when you think about it...it's kinda tracks.

I (barely) watched S7 once and vowed to never sit through that train wreck again. TBH, I haven't seen a single episode of GG in probably 4-5 years, though that's more because it no longer aired at a time that was convenient or on a channel I got. I might check out a few of the early eps again now that it's on Hallmark.

I hadn't watched any of it since my first watch in 2016. I totally forgot about Lorelai's dude from S4 (the one who went into business with her father), and I'm forgetting everything about him already :P I mixed him up with Max and Jason Ritter's character on Parenthood (which I watched right after GG for more Lauren Graham and her ex boyfriend Peter Krause...)
