offer a more in depth synopsis so you can decide if it'd be a show you'd like or not.

Gilmore Girls is a show filled with quirky characters in a small Connecticut town, and the central relationship is between mom and daughter Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Lorelai had Rory when she was 16 and has kept her distance from her parents (Kelly Bishop and Edward Herrmann), but she goes to them for money so Rory can attend a prep school to get into Harvard (Rory's dream school). They agree on the condition that Rory and Lorelai have dinner with them every Friday night. (That's the pilot in a nutshell).

Lorelai works at an Inn in Stars Hallow, a small quirky CT town with her friend, the chef Sookie (played by a young Melissa McCarthy). Luke is the diner owner where she and Rory spend lots of time drinking coffee and talking about anything and everything with lots of pop culture references.

It's somewhat in the vein of Northern Exposure and Ed in that the small town itself is often the most important character. People either love or hate those types of shows. It's serialized, but not so much that if you missed an episode you'd be completely lost.

It has a large recurring cast, and several minor characters went on to other things, like Krystal Ritter, Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill, Freaky Friday 2003), Todd Lowe (True Blood), Adam Brody (he got The O.C. while recurring as Lane's boyfriend and left), Sebastian Bach...they also cast Mädchen Amick and Sherilyn Fenn from Twin Peaks in guest roles. (Fenn plays two different characters). Rory's boyfriends were played by Jared Padalecki, Milo Ventimiglia and Matt Czuchry. Sally Struthers plays a series-long recurring character, and Carole King makes an appearance (she wrote/sings the theme song).

I needed something very light hearted. It just started streaming on Hulu (I think it's still on Netflix, along with the one-season sequel series done by the creators, since they left before the final season due to contract disputes). So I decided to rewatch it (since it's also the 25th anniversary this year).

It isn't one of my all time faves, but it is a show that I enjoy and is comfort food during these dark times. I relate a lot to both Lorelai and Rory. It does have that early 2000s WB vibe going on.
