It’s about things going very wrong at an English girls boarding school. This was the first film directed by Jordan Scott, the daughter of Ridley Scott. Based on this film, I would definitely watch more of her work. It has a compelling, fast-moving story, well-drawn characters, and great acting — but I have to say, I cannot remember when a movie last made me this angry! That’s really all I can say without spoiling it.
Incidentally, it’s an Irish production distributed in the U.S. by IFC. IFC (fka IFC Films, plus IFC Midnight [horror], and Sundance Selects [documentaries]) concentrates on mostly indie movies, both domestic and international, and is another great source for those if you run out of A24.
