Sometimes character, poetic language, themes, sense of place, etc are more important than plot. Of course I enjoy a good story (plot) but other things are equally or more important in a novel to me. And I definitely don’t need a “twist” ending to every story. If a “twist” is organic, fine. But a “twist” ending has to be very organic and fair to me or else it’s just a gimmick.
