Diaz’s writing but cared so much about the characters in Demon Copperhead. In Trust, not so much. But to be fair, I don’t think we were supposed to love the characters in Trust. I think his creative structure won him the Pulitzer, similar to when A Visit from the Goon Squad won. I read and loved The Shipping News many years ago and, BTW, The Shipping News won the Pulitzer that year.
[My sister used to work at Columbia University School of Journalism on the DuPont Awards and the Pulitzer Awards office was on the same floor so I probably pay more attention to the Pulitzers than most people]. I need to read some Dennis Lehane novels.
