Mild spoiler is that the other doctor does come around and is friendly with Bash again by this past episode. But anytime Bash talks with a friend from back home, I always get the feeling that he's homesick in some ways. Obviously not for a war torn country but for the people he knew and loved and is now separated from. I don't think he'd go back anytime soon because of Amira. He is her primary guardian and, now with Mags dead, she will rely on him all the more. I can't decide where I think he will be by series end tho.

Oh, he's definitely homesick for his friends and likely for the life he knew. I wonder if Amira is as homesick for the life she left or if she's thoroughly "Canadian-ized" by now and thinks of Syria more as her culture rather than a beloved homeland.

Theo has turned into such an Angry White Man cliche. Sadly, a couple characters feel more like caricatures this season (Theo, Novak, Devi, Claire, etc). He just seems fed up with the system at the hospital so, yeah, maybe he should go into private practice so he can do whatever he wants without having to answer to a boss.

So much THIS! SO many stereotypical characters and not quite enough nuance. So far, I feel like Bash is the only one who got any kind of positive character development...or maybe not even positive development as much as an explanation for why he is who he is (though both his medical skills and his compassion are pretty terrific).

I was also never a big June fan. I don't feel like they did enough to humanize her. She's very cold and aloof even now, several seasons in.

Yep. It feels like they repeatedly dropped the ball with her character, giving her little to no room to soften a little. I thought maybe her sister (half-sister?) showing up would've led us to a kinder, gentler June...I was wrong.

So I've done some soul-searching and asked myself if I have some internalized misogyny towards Devi. I don't think I do because I want to see strong female characters kick butt onscreen but she is too ruled by her feelings. Also, she kinda comes across like a hater of men in general. All her issues are with the male doctors despite the female ones making equally bad choices over the course of the show. She ousts Novak from Trauma OR even though he is brilliant in the position and, yeah, he's a jackass most of the time but she doesn't have to like him, she just has to let him save lives. She's always on Theo's case whether he deserves it in that moment or not. And, I'm sorry, but I do not believe Mags was a better choice for the position than Bash. I just don't buy it. And there is Claire over here addicted to drugs and stealing from the hospital and Devi is just lightly scolding her. Yeah, Devi sucks.

I feel like in general, some brilliant doctors, especially male ones, can be pompous, arrogant jerks with a God complex...but if you're getting the job done, having a lousy personality shouldn't necessarily get you fired. And yes, I think you're correct in Devi coming across as a man-hater. I found this quote from an article about the character's introduction--""She's the kind of character that we root for and that we like, but also brings change that affects everybody on our show," showrunner Joseph Kay explains to NBC Insider. "And so she's an interesting and antagonist in that way."--and I thought nope. I'm not rooting for her and I don't like her. Though I actually like the actress (Rekha Sharma) quite a bit. I adored her as Kali, the goddess who shoots down Dean's attempt to pick her up in Supernatural season 5's episode "Hammer of the Gods" <g>.

I love John Hannah too. I hated that he left so I'm happy to see him again. He is great.

Agree!
