inexpensive but still somewhat "impressive" to people who are kind of foodies. Vaguely healthy wouldn't be bad either <g>.
My brother turns 70 on Sunday. Which is impossible because if HE's old, that makes ME old š His kids decided at the last minute to throw an informal party at their house Sunday afternoon. Nephew's going to grill hamburgers and hot dogs, Niece will do some sides and a carrot cake has been ordered (Bro's favorite and one of the few cakes I actually like, so yay). I asked if I could bring anything and Nephew told me maybe a dessert (since carrot cake isn't everyone's cup of tea) and an appetizer.
On the one hand, Bro likes pretty much anything, but OTOH, he and his kids are a little bougie when it comes to food. So I don't want to go TOO simple or "plain Midwestern". I think for the dessert, I might do no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies. They're something Mom made often that we all liked...and dang it, I've not had them in a while and want some <g>. But I'm stuck on the app. I thought maybe something nostalgic...and I want to be mindful that Bro usually eats pretty healthy and has high blood pressure like so many of us in the family, so I don't want to do anything super processed or dripping in sodium. When he brings a dish to an outing, it's almost always some kind of healthy salad (which I think Niece is already making). I've already ruled out a veggie tray (boring, plus there's always so many veggies left over at any party I go to), veggie pizza (fun and nostalgic but a pain to make, plus a little high in sodium) and the tomato-basil-mozzarella skewers I've made a few times before
Suggestions?
