* My good church friend had a birthday earlier this month but we didn't celebrate till yesterday. She's a HUGE fan of the Disney movie Lilo and Stitch, and she especially adores Stitch (has several stuffed Stitches, several Stitch shirts, Stitch socks, etc.). I usually plan a birthday "adventure" that involves us hitting a local beach but this year, I was waffling on which beach to go to and when she asked me if I would have any interest in seeing the live-action remake of Lilo and Stitch**, well, I didn't really but I told her I'd take her to lunch*** and to see the movie as her birthday adventure.
** The remake was pretty good (and gcf absolutely loved it). Apparently there were some minor changes but gcf didn't mind and it's been so long since I saw the original, I didn't even notice.
*** Again, I have to say I have the best dad in the world...only a couple weeks ago, he gave me money to treat myself and bff to lunch (he's sympathetic to us both making a lot less money than we ever did as adults). Gcf loves my dad like a second father and always gives him a birthday card and something small--usually a bag of dark chocolate Dove Promises or Hershey kisses--and also gives him something small on Easter and at Christmas (usually at Christmas, she bakes him cookies). My dad loves gcf like another daughter and when I mentioned I was taking her out for lunch and a movie as a birthday treat for her, he insisted on paying. For both of us, which I wasn't expecting. Awww.
Anyways...work Saturday nights is usually dead. I can count on one hand, with four fingers left over, the number of times we've had one of our big spenders come in on a Saturday night. All the other shops are closed by 5:00 (we're open till 7:00 PM every day except on Sundays when we're open noon-5:00) and the only people coming into the store are diners killing time till their dinner reservation. Today we had more foot traffic than usual but it was mostly curious festival goers and the occasional teens who had no intent on buying anything. However, even I was thrown when two teenage girls, clad in matching skin tight leggings and barely there bandeau tops, strutted in, walked right over to the floor to ceiling mirror towards the back of the store, posed for several selfies complete with peace signs and kissy lips, then sauntered out again. They didn't even pretend to look around. A woman was actually buying a couple items of clothing at the time and, amazed, she said "You must see that all the time". Nope, that was a first. It's rare enough to see teens in the store (unless they're with an older woman or shopping for grandma) and I've never seen any enter with the express purpose of taking selfies.
Oh, I had another first at work, one I've been expecting and one that was looooong overdue: I finally mixed up my starting time and showed up late to work. I'd arrived early so I could grab some grub from a festival food truck or stand* and was wandering around, killing time before my 2:30 start time. When *I* sauntered in around 2:15, I was proud of myself for getting back extra early for my shift...and then found out I was supposed to be there by 2:00. My store manager was by herself at that point; I was expecting her to be REALLY mad but really, I'm her golden child right now (it's been ages since the store has had three key holders that could work ANY shift, not just specific days or times) so I just got a mild "you're late" and then SM moved on.
* not that anyone really cares <g> but I wound up getting a REALLY good, and REALLY expensive (even for food truck food) fried green tomato sandwich at one food truck, then went over to another that had REALLY overpriced grilled cheese sandwiches and got a REALLY delicious strawberry rhubarb spritzer made with Topo Chico water, a strawberry-rhubarb puree and a chamomile infused simple syrup. It would've been REALLY refreshing on a hot day...today we didn't quite top 60°.
