surprised that this is such a long People story.

I can still remember the screams of a neighbor girl who climbed over a fence, jumped down and impaled her foot on a metal rake that was on the other side. This was decades ago. What I remember most is how the happy screams of kids playing suddenly turned into a horrifying scream. Simone wasn’t as lucky as the girl with the crochet needle. She was hurt badly and needed a lot of time to rehab.
