I loathed the social aspect of team sports as a kid and I loved the social aspect of doing theatre.

He very much is someone who cares about appearances and he prioritizes that above everything to a nearly pathological degree. So he wants a kid who is a superstar. Ironically, the son who has been termed "gifted" and succeeds at all sorts of things with minimal effort has always been a bit cool on his dad.

The son who has a number of social and school challenges worships him.

So they both end up in the dog house. One for not being devoted enough and the other for not being good at the things his father wants him to be good at.

I think the reason we have gotten closer to action on the divorce front is because literally no one is happy. But it's a hard thing to live through.
