My mom is finally (finally!!!!) out of the hospital and rehab after two months. She went home Monday and my brother and my nephew have been taking turns going to stay with her and help her out. She also has PT and a nurse coming by and I think they've hired someone to stay with her overnight a few times. So I'm going to head down there on Friday to stay until Thursday, to help her out, get some meals made, clean, etc.
My biggest issue is whether I should drive down or fly down.
Pros and cons of driving:
Pro - I can drive my new car and listen to podcasts and Sirius radio. I could probably stop at my friend's house in Richmond and spend the night so it's not just one long drive. I would have my car when I get there. If I need to stay longer it's easy. If I need to leave early I can. I can bring my laptop with me for my brother to fix. I don't have to worry about fitting everything into one bag.
Con - it's a long drive and I'm not getting any younger.
Pros and cons of flying:
Pro - it's a short flight. I can drive my brother's car while I'm there. I'd be able to get there Friday night and leave Thursday morning. I can use miles so the price isn't an issue.
Con - I would have to fly out of DC instead of BWI (BWI is like 15 minutes from my house). I'd have to take commuter rail and the Metro to get to the airport, dragging my suitcase, CPAP, and probably a backpack. Plus a heavy coat since it's so damned cold. And then I'd have to deal with the backpack, coat, and CPAP on the plane. I wouldn't get in until after 10pm Friday. I can't bring the laptop (it's kind of heavy, I'm so mad I forgot it at Christmas!). It's 30K miles and I've been saving miles to use on an international trip. the 30k is for first class because I'm worried my butt won't fit in the regular seats, which are 16k. I remember thinking the last time I took this route that the regular seats would probably be fine but I'm worried about risking it. I don't think it's a very popular route but I can't guarantee I won't have a seatmate.
ugh I'm so wishy washy and I need to decide by tomorrow

Thanks everyone for the input! I decided to fly. - Kris - 23-Jan-2025 1:30 PM
- And the flight was delayed 2+ hours, so now I'm connecting through Charlotte - Kris - 24-Jan-2025 1:41 PM
- It sounds like you want the flexibility but are on the fence on timing - CL - 23-Jan-2025 8:00 AM

I would too. Driving has so much more freedom. I hate flying though. EOM - senorbrightside - 23-Jan-2025 6:25 AM

You didn't mention how much a plane ticket would cost. It's been a couple - Wahoo - 22-Jan-2025 7:45 PM
- I'd be using frequent flyer miles and would have a car there i can drive. - Kris - 22-Jan-2025 8:44 PM
