I was scheduled to work yesterday from 9:30-2:30, then today from 2:30-7:15. But around 1:30 yesterday, M (84 year old firecracker) called in to say her car battery was "dead" and she couldn't get AAA out there to jump it until 4:45 at the latest. Our store martyr...I mean store manager was scheduled to leave at 2:00; she started bemoaning how she was now going to have to stay until M made it in, and it was likely M wouldn't be in until very late, if at all. So I told SM I would be happy to work the entire day.

Yeah...I didn't think that one through <g>. More on that later.

So SM texted M and told her to stay home yesterday. M begged SM to give her another shift, as money is tight for her right now, so SM asked M if she was available today, and when she said she was, she told M I would work M's Tuesday afternoon shift and M could take my Wednesday afternoon shift. So...three consecutive days off for me, and one of them (today) is going to be VERY cold (again), so yay me! And of course we only had a half dozen people in the store all day yesterday, and only two bought anything, so it wasn't like I was overwhelmed with work. However, it's been a minute since I had to be on my feet for more than 6 hours, and my footwear was more cute than comfortable, so my "dogs were barking" even before my shift was over, and my right foot was still a little sore this morning when I got up, though it's since greatly improved. I also hadn't factored in a loss of wages; I worked the same number of hours yesterday that I would've worked yesterday and today but any shift over 6 hours means an unpaid lunch, so I wound up losing roughly 30 minutes of pay :-( But SM was exceedingly grateful to not have to work 2 full days in a row (she's prepared to stay all day today if M is still having battery issues) and I'm exceedingly grateful to not have to go to work for three straight days.

I've already had a productive morning. So far I've read a good chunk of the book I'm currently working on, I've had a "mini-spa day"--I took a long shower, I deep-conditioned my hair and I applied a nice face mask to combat some of this dry winter air--and I've organized a couple more drawers, this time in the dry sink in the living room. I'm thinking of organizing a few more drawers (I briefly thought about doing some organization in the attic but it was -6° when I woke up and the attic isn't heated) and I definitely plan on finishing my book by the end of the day.
