gorgeous. Today is the first windy day so we’re hanging on our balcony instead of on the beach below. It’s 82 here and 25 in NYC, so I’m fine with this windy day. The wind is really wilding up the normally calm turquoise sea to the point that there is a red flag up on the beach this morning. Up until today, we’ve had beautiful beach days. Mother Nature seems a little agitated today. Hopefully she’ll settle down this afternoon. There is always the pool if the sea has to be skipped today.

We have the perfect balcony for this kind of day. When we got here we were upgraded to what might be the best condo in the building. It’s a one-bedroom with living room, dining room and kitchen (and of course bathroom). It’s a lot bigger than my Brooklyn apartment. My favorite “room” is the balcony which faces the sea and has a drop dead gorgeous view of the sea. I can see the mainland on the horizon beyond all the sea. I also see the tops of palm trees Blowin’ In the Wind (I’ve had the song in my head ever since going to see A Complete Unknown).

The balcony is deep enough to protect us from rain and wind if we hang out in the back half (where we still have this great view). To give you an idea of how deep this balcony is, there is a wood table that seats 8 that runs, perpendicular, not parallel, to the living room. We had breakfast this morning at the end of the table closest to the sliding door to the living room. There is a cushioned attached bench along one wall of the balcony under a huge mosaic on that wall. The person who owns this condo has great taste in art and there are some amazing art pieces in every room of this condo. On the opposite wall of the balcony there is a long stone counter with a small refrigerator under it. (There is a full sized fridge/freezer in the kitchen. The owners of this condo clearly love to entertain. All of the balcony chairs are wood with thick cushions.

We’re on the 6th floor. The only thing above us is the penthouse which has access to the roof. I think we are one of the tallest buildings on the island but it is all very natural design and color that blends in well with the nature around us. Our balcony faces north overlooking the beach but we also have windows looking south over the whole island. We can see all the way to the southern tip of the island and the sea beyond. It is an amazing view.

The last time we were here two years ago, we had a ground floor condo, which I loved. It had a patio instead of a balcony. When we got here and were given room 601 I was a little disappointed to not have a ground floor condo again. But I quickly adjusted and embraced my temporary home in Mexico for the awesome condo it is. There is an elevator, thankfully. When we checked in, they were so proud to present us with the key to room 601. Clearly, they thought they were giving us their best condo — because they were. Each condo has a different owner and is decorated individually.

In the week we’ve been here, we’ve met some awesome people. This place just seems to attract kindred spirits. I haven’t gotten much reading done because I’ve been doing so much talking and drinking with my temp neighbors. The island is a foodie paradise so great meals at different restaurants every day. And, as usual, shrimp coming out of my ears.

I do not want to come home!
