you may recall my dad died a little over a year ago, and when they were still working and dreaming of retirement, they used to talk about doing an Alaska cruise or trainride, or buying a truck with a sleeper bed and cruising the country.
But they never did those things. Mainly because my dad smoked and he wouldn't do anything that would require him to not smoke for periods of time. Then he needed oxygen and ultimately just got too sick to do any traveling.
My mom went to the outer banks in SC last summer with my aunt and uncle...4 days before Helene. they cut that trip short but in the time they were there, they planned a cruise. a freaking 17 day cruise to the Hawaiian islands and French Polynesia!
It's almost halfway done and she is having a blast! for a woman who hasn't been on a plane in 20 years and hasn't been away from home for longer than 7 days, it's HUGE!
I'm so proud of her. I'm so jealous when I see the pics! And even tho I have been freaked the hell out with her being across the country AND ocean, I'm just so happy for her to have this experience.
