It’s the story of the lifelong friendship of two women who grew up together in the same poor neighborhood in Naples, Italy. It’s based on Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan quartet of novels, with one season per novel. It was just so beautifully done with terrific production values and great casting. Locations include Naples, Florence, Milan and other locations in Italy. It was more like watching a really long movie than a TV series. It was a joint production of HBO and an Italian company. I give HBO a lot of credit for doing this since this show is in Italian and Neapolitan, not English. I slow-marathoned it over maybe six weeks and I think it was a good way to watch it rather than waiting a long time between seasons as it airs. I have the novels, which I haven’t read yet. But now I want to read them even more. I have read other Elena Ferrante.
