I wanted to see A Complete Unknown but when we got there (early, not at the last minute), the next screening was sold out. In fact, we got the last two tickets to Nosferatu and then that was sold out too. The other two movies, Nickel Boys (which we’d already seen) and Babygirl, at this theater (BAM-Brooklyn Academy of Music) were also sold out.

I’ve been going out to the movies a lot this year and this was the first time since the pandemic that I encountered all four of the movies screening at this theater sold out. I was happy to see the crowds of movie goers. Happy for the movie theater industry because I don’t want more movie theaters to disappear and very happy for BAM in particular because I adore that place. BAM is an arts center that has both live performances and movies (heavy on indies and foreign films).

If I can squeeze going to see A Complete Unknown in before I head to Mexico on January 14, we might have to buy the tix online ahead of time to make sure we can get in once we get there.

Nosferatu was very good. If you’re going to see it, see it on a big screen. The cinematography is gorgeous. It’s a story that we’re all familiar with: Dracula/Nosferatu; but very well done and back to the root horror story of the vampire being a repulsive monster not an eternally young sexy guy. Bill Skarsgard plays the vampire and Johnny Depp’s daughter, Lily-Rose, plays his victim/the heroine. Earlier Robert Eggers movies that I’ve seen and liked are The Lighthouse and The Witch. His films are visually stunning.
