those who selflessly serve, especially those who served in times of war. I'm so grateful for all our veterans!
And speaking of Veteran's Day...today is my youngest nibling's birthday. This year, both Dad and I completely forgot until today. We both send her cards; Dad includes a generous birthday check and I usually throw in an Amazon gift card. In the past, we've had years where our cards were a bit late due to the holiday (and it's just now dawning on me...the "kid" will never get a birthday card in the mail on her actual birthday, so I guess it's good for her that few people send cards in the mail anymore?).
Dad and I caught a break though...I'm working the evening shift today and my niece is working at a bar/restaurant a short walk away from my workplace. I texted her "happy birthday" and asked if she was working tonight at <restaurant's name> and she said yes. So I'm going to stop by with our cards...plus I picked up a few balloons and am bringing her some of the brownies I made yesterday for Dad in honor of the Marine Corps' birthday (it's a tradition Mom started: making a little treat every year on the anniversary of the creation of the Marine Corps and then wishing Dad a "happy birthday").
