and realizing that you have
nowhere to put your garbage can for pick up because there are three vehicles (the plumber's van and two pick up trucks belonging to the company doing the remodel) on the street in front of your house. I put the can across the street in front of my neighbor's mailbox. I called her and let her know I'd put my trash can in front of her mailbox. She said there wasn't a problem, but she'd made that offer before and had offered to let us park in front of her house if necessary. I like good neighbors.
As I left for church this morning, running late because of the hubbub, I saw that besides the three vehicles on the street, there were two more in the backyard. It was like someone had thrown a rock at a beehive.
In theory, they were getting ready for an inspection by someone from the planning section of City Hall, so they were doing the final touches on the inspectable stuff.
I'd been told the day before about the inspection and that the doors would be installed next Tuesday. They were already at the warehouse. I'd gotten the two dog doors so I'd be ready, instead of waiting until the weekend. Imagine my surprise when I got home after mass and found two guys putting in the doors. I did not remember that we'd decided to get the doors with the encapsulated blinds. I'd thought we'd said "French doors" with no mention of blinds of any kind. WHAT??!!!! Glad I got the dog doors early.
My daughter left for an appointment, then stayed away from the house the rest of the day. I left about a half an hour after her to get my hair done and to make my Costco run (short list, but still managed to spend about $270. I bought some induction-ready skillets that were on sale, and some things that were not on the list. No Tropical Punch Kool-Aid.), picked up food on the way home from Culver, then came home. The house was dark, the exterior doors (single door to the side yard, double doors to the backyard) were in place with no hardware, so I couldn't open them. They're held in place with shims, so I didn't force them. I'm basically locked into the room and the dogs can't get out into the yard through the room. So, we had to go through the garage, into the side yard where my daughter usually parks and we fenced off, through the walk-through gate into the backyard after I'd checked the double wide gate to make sure the yard was secure.
So, it looks like we'll be doing an odd route to the back yard and we'll have to buy the hardware for the doors this weekend. Glad I had some money transferred over so I could get some stuff for the project.
We'll see what surprises next week brings...like maybe having the toilet replaced. Wish us luck.
