My folks were cheap <g>. Most years, my Halloween costumes were Mom's makeup + anything she either could dig out of her closet or buy at a garage sale. I remember being a clown with a red lipstick nose. A cat with brow pencil whiskers. A princess in Mom's old jewelry and an old dress. There were a few years I put my foot down (read: pitched a fit) and got a store bought costume, so I'm familiar with the masks. And having to wear a coat over your costume so most Halloween nights, it didn't matter what you were because nobody could tell what was under your coat.
