I think so much differently than my parents in how to get ahead, but ultimately, it's the same dream.

It's a nice house in a safe place, health care that wont bankrupt you, and being able to eat food that isn't full of preservatives and chemicals b/c it's cheaper than homegrown veggies.

We live in one of the richest countries in the world -- and you and I live in the middle, where we grow the veggies, raise the cows, etc. The fact that our parents were convinced (and then taught us) that its Bob down the street that's keeping us from getting ahead is great marketing by corporate America.

Honestly, I'd be embarrassed about what my parents believe, but I also see how what they say differs from what they do. When I was in school and there was pizza day fundraiser, they would donate hours or money to make sure every kid got pizza. When a neighbor is hurt, they reach out and bring food or mow the lawn, or shovel the sidewalks. They believe no child should go hungry. But then when it dips into "the system", they firmly believe people aren't just trying to survive but they're scamming and hard-working folks like them will have to make up for it. What they practice is so different than what they preach b/c the system has brainwashed them that their enemy is people who have less when it's the people who have the most and are shifting their community/humanity responsibilities.
