I can’t believe so many people panic-bought TP, emptying store shelves.

The vast majority of TP used in the US is made in the US (around 90%, I think). So there was never any danger of a TP shortage if the dockworkers’ strike went long. Trucks and trains could transport our TP to us. Ironically, it was the panic-buying of TP that could have caused a shortage and driven the price up. And, had the strike lasted longer, it would have been more of a problem to the companies who couldn’t export their TP via ships to other countries.

Bananas are a different story.
