This is my fear, too. Often a show's attempt at "drama" can tarnish the pairing. I was so unhappy with the "Carlos has a long lost secret wife" they threw at Tarlos last year. Like, WTF? Really? He came out to his parents at 17....and then married a woman? And never bothered to tell TK about it during their entire relationship up to their wedding? AND that woman was his best friend's sister and, again, no mention of it before? It was the worst idea, even worse than Eddie's dead wife had a lookalike.
OliverS really shot the idea of any kind of jealousy between the trio down in a recent interview. The person was suggesting Tommy might get jealous of Buck's bond with Eddie and he was just like, "Nope, not happening". Sometimes I think he's so over Buddie fans. 😂
It's not. The fans are loud and obnoxious but they are not some huge, dominating part of the general audience. None of those other ships happened based off fan shipping and I don't think it will happen here either. Mainly because....
Of this. Minear has talked about getting network approval for stories before and I just don't see ABC being like "Sure, tell the exact same story for Eddie that you're currently telling for Buck". Plus, networks like having the hot guy character who can romance the ladies. Chimney and Bobby are both married. Buck is in a m/m romance now (which I feel Minear will want to hold on to since he's losing Tarlos this season and Michael's gone). Eddie will get the ladies by default now.
Minear basically said the same in an interview last season, that online fandom does not the represent the 5 million who watch every week. Online fandoms are generally very niche as the vast majority of viewers don't get involved in them.
