You could interpret it as about teen depression or even onset of schizophrenia. But the writer/director, who is trans, intends it to be about gender dysporia, based on their own experience and inspired by their own teen obsession with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They wrote the screenplay right after their own egg crack during their early months on hormones. I liked it. It was interesting. It’s got a surreal feel to it that is hard to describe. I now know what a person’s “egg crack” is. I did not know that term but it’s a good one for what it means.
