about the 1982 Brewers failing to win the World Series. WI wasn't attacked and I still went, is it in good taste to celebrate anything on September 11?! For me, it feels too soon to forget and not commemorate those who lost their lives.
I know it's been 23 years, but Lord, it feels like it was yesterday.
I don't take off on September 11, but I do use it as a quiet day and so do most of my friends. I go to work, come home, check-in with friends who experienced it with me in LA as young adults just out of college and on our own, do some light reading or tv watching, and go to bed. It's not a day I feel like doing anything "fun."
I get that the younger generation doesn't remember September 11, and it's less likely that the generations that do are still the key demo for MTV (but damn it, it was started for GenX/Older Millenials so give us some respect!). So maybe it's like Pearl Harbor Day (very serious for my grandparents) or Kennedy's assassination (heartbreaking for my dad) but having not been alive when those things happened, I wasn't feeling the need to be somber because it was "history."
God I feel old.
