at 60, she may have lived alone with no one who made contact with her on a daily basis.

The article stated that she clocked in on a Monday and was found on a Thursday. Supervisors may have only looked for her because she didn't provide input to payroll.

At her age, in a subtle form of ageism, they may have put her somewhere far away from the rest of the workforce (in "a very underpopulated area") in hopes that she would retire or, better yet for the company, quit.
