was shining. Then it slowly clouded up, and some time around 10:00 AM, it started to
pour. Then it stopped, then the sun came out, then the cycle repeated. I was driving to pick up my good church friend to take her to (not)Beachfest at Mentor Headlands...I was driving through near standing water and had the wipers going steady. BUT as we actually approached the beach, the rain slowed, and by the time we got out of the car, it had stopped again, almost for good. We were at (not)Beachfest for about 3 and 1/2 hours...we got just a teeny bit sprinkled on while eating lunch but it was barely noticeable. There was a lot of praising God for the (eventually) good weather, and we had a lot of fun looking around. Because this was NOT Beachfest, there wasn't supposed to be sand sculptures but a local art school came down and made one anyways. Gcf and I both came home with giant cookies from a local woman who bakes them; we each got three, and I've only tried one so far, but if the other two are equally good, then it was an excellent buy. Both gcf and I pick up things we find on the beach--mostly interesting rocks, bits of beach glass, an occasional itty bitty shell--and Saturday, I stumbled upon two plastic Army guys buried in the sand. I brought them home for Dad and he got a kick out of them.
Yesterday after church, I met bff for lunch at Another Broken Egg Cafe. When it opened, it was always jam-packed; I was thinking there'd be a long wait for a table on Sunday at brunch time. But we got right in. Both of us opted for sandwiches since we'd only had breakfast food there before and we both enjoyed our sandwiches very much. Afterwards, I stopped at a few places to pick up some necessities and add a little to my wardrobe. A few years ago, Ohio declared one weekend in August "tax free weekend" and eliminated the sales tax on school supplies. Then they started eliminated the tax that weekend on clothing (even if you weren't in school anymore <g>), shoes and some accessories, up to $75 total purchase. This year it was expanded from a weekend to almost two full weeks, and you can buy up to $500 worth of clothing without paying sales tax. Also new this year: if you eat inside a restaurant, you don't pay any tax. Whoo-hoo! I was even happier bff and I had lunch out yesterday.
